I was wondering if anybody here hunted hogs in that area. Its something that i am interested in and wasnt sure if i could do it with my current dog or if i would have to wait until i purchased a new pup.

Look up HogBiz on the WWW. He is in Baton Rouge and travels every weekend to round up hogs. His website is a non-profit business used to find landowners with hog problems. He is a real good guy.
Bulldogs are overated when it comes to catching hogs, Baydogs do the majority of the work. Bulldogs are just used to catch.

now now, agreed, but catchdogs are certainly not overrated, underrated rather, your typical hogdogger (19 out of 20) will look at you like a deer in headlights if you ask him how his catchdogs are bred. unfortunately they are expendable and dont last long in this sport, and are sold for 50 to 100 bux, and thats a finished(fully trained) catchdog. this is because most are worthless, lotta guys get big ole gatoermouf pits and think they are good because they are big, etc etc. It takes alot of training, experience, and luck to get a good catchdog, in short yes all they do is catch, because the other dogs cannot, Im sure some say they can, in numbers though. too many things can make a catchdog bad, one that wont shut the fuck up, dog aggression, human aggression, the innability to make it to the bay, being able to cut em loose from 250 or more yards and knowing they will be caught and not just run around like an idiot and get lost, one that will catch ear everytime and not get himself killed, one that wont let go, it goes on and on, sorry , just my humble 2 cents

I was just saying that without a pack of good bay dogs a bulldog wouldn't be doing a whole lot of catching.
Bay dogs are a necessity, while catchdog are a luxury. I've seen some of them boys jump on the hog and hogtie him before the bulldog even made it there! Crazy fuckers!

I don't what the land is like where you guys hunt,or what kinda people you hunt with. But you don't need a bay dog to catch hogs.If you buddy's are beating there bulldogs to the hog,its no surprise you think like this. They obviously have junk dogs.I caught hogs for years without using bay dogs.A bay dog is a luxury,a bulldog is a necessity.

  7. I know of a guy in Florida who had his testicles torn off by a boar. His bay dogs couldnt do a thing about it. He probably would be ok if he had a catch dog. I know of plenty of people who would ride through the woods on an ATV with their bulldog and turn him loose when he caught sent. Bay dogs are great to have, but you dont do real hog catching without a catch dog. I also know of a man that had heat stroke just as a bad boar came for him. His bulldog fought that boar and killed it. Where would he be without his trusty catch dog?

lol, ok I will say this, many things probably have happened and you might be able to find a freak occurance on line, but, if anyone wants to try it, I will love to see your results, although I can tell you now what theyll be, so go try to catch a hog without a baydog or catchdog combo an see how useless your trip to the woods is. Id warn you to not waste your time unless you just wanna go and see the countryside

I am calling BS on this story! I have seen a lot of good catch dogs on hogs, but I have never seen a catch dog even come close to killing a big hog. It would take HOURS or more.

Typically, the only way to get a hog with just a bulldog is if you jump the hogs, or walk in on them at night.....
