...a question.. my 8 month old submitted to a Pomerinian the other day.. but he stepped up to a Mastiff before.. everytime the Pom came growling and guarding her territory, he'd run by my side and lay down, then get back up and run back towards her trying to play.. then, same thing.. over and over..
Most dogs don't like him, don't know why, he always just wants to play.. he plays with pit pups just fine.. but when it comes to any other dog.. they growl and bark at him..
But him submitting to a Pom, doesn't sound like he's game.. but it wasn't a fight, so I don't know.. a Rott/Collie mix came half an inch trying to bite his face and he still ran at it, but the Pom was 1/2 a foot away and he submitted.. what's with that?

P.S. he's a rescue from being a bait dog.. if that matters... but he'll do anything for me, if I train him to do things, but he follows me everywhere and is loyal as hell.. he lives with my girlfriend because I'm going to the Army in a few days.. but I'm his favorite.. will he be the same when I get back? (in about 2 months, I'll be back for a week, then 1 month out of a year...)

alot of times, dogs acr in different ways to show dominance and such. it's probably a sign from your pit that it's not trying to be aggressive with the pom. and if another dominant dog comes around(like the mastiff) it'lll buck up cause the other dog may think it's dominant. it's all in the body language of the dogs. if it hasn't been trained to be aggressive, it will usually show signs of non-aggressive behavior to other dogs so that they don't feel threatend.

my female did the same as a pup, smaller dogs freak her out sometimes. but big dogs, she freaks on them, she has no fear of a bigger dog. now she doesn't care what the size she thinks she is the shit and will puff up to anything.

My wife has a pom and the pom is very aggresive. I have a pit as well and the pom always plays ruff. Poms are just very aggresive. All poms. But they also get along well.

yeah, poms are just mad cause they gotta look like that. i had one bite athrough my pits ear because she kept flippin her up in the air.

  8. Why take the chance with the pom, some day the apbt will be the boss and the pom will pay the price guaranteed, don't put your little dog in harms way, it will only cost you vet bills at the least and give the bulldogs a bad name.just my 2 cents

Depends, if your dog is not from a game line then a chances of it being game is very slim. Athough that 35 dog...:)

but anyway he's just a pup, right now he's in the stage where he's trying to find its place. Be careful though, even though he just wants to play some dogs still think of it as a challange, him charging up and ready to play.

And its weird, my dogs go nuts when they see a dog bigger than them, (let alone each other) but soon as a little dog goes by they pay it no mind. lol weird

I think that is probably very comman (the pom situation). My 9month old just plain doesn't see small dogs. But big dogs, wooooo, she's all over that! Her favorite buddy is a great dane.

Gameness is a measure of heart not aggressiveness. A gamedog will not ever submit, it will keep going, no matter how tired, or hurt. On the flipside, bulldogs can take upto 2+ years to turn on. A game dog usually makes a roll look effortless, not scared or freaking out, just non-stop action, but loving it the whole time.

Your little boy is still to young to know what he wants. I had a male that got along with small dogs great. Now you put him anywhere around a bigger dog and he got serious. He didn't freak out and try and go after it but you could tell his demeanor changed real quick and he was just waitin for me to give him the go sign.

Gameness in APBT's is a canine virtue that is most akin to the human virtue of unflagging courage. It is a determination to master any situation and never back down out of fear. It was developed in pit bulls by many generations of selective breeding. It is what allows a pit bull to keep fighting non-stop for two or more hours, in spite of broken bones, torn muscles, blood loss, dehydration, and exhaustion. But it is also valued by APBT owners who would never think of fighting their dogs. It is manifested in the can-do attitude of pit bulls toward any type of challenge, whether agility competitions, climbing up trees, or protecting their family against an armed attacker, etc.Generally speaking, a game dog is an emotionally stable, easy-going dog, especially good with kids. Gameness should not be confused with aggressiveness. There are plenty of aggressive dogs that are not game, and there are game pit bulls who are not aggressive toward other types of dogs. Aggressiveness will propell a dog into a fight but will only sustain him for the first few minutes. Gameness, on the other hand, will not necessarily make a dog fight-happy; but if the dog has no other choice but to fight, a game dog will fight until it wins or dies trying, and will keep going as long as necessary. Gameness is an inner quality of pit bulls. There is no way you can tell by looking at a pit bull whether it is deeply game or not. The only test--and for many years the main criterion for selecting a dog for breeding purposes--is actually fighting the dog to see how it stands up to other dogs that have likewise already proven their gameness in the pit. Dogs that are emotionally unstable, or that fear-bite human beings are generally not game. If you want a nice pit, you're generally better off getting one that has been game-bred. These dogs represent the truest exemplars of all the best qualities in the breed.

  18. You say your dog is a rescue dog, why not leave it at that? Why do you care if he is "game"?

MIKA is 9 months old and she is very protective of me toward any other dog big or little and she is so nice to people. I think it is the dogs instinct when another dog comes around to protect. When I am not outside with her as long as another dog doesn,t come in her territory then she pays it no mind. Just when I am around or where she can see me is when she is aggressive. Pups will be pups and I think 9 months is really to young to worry how the dog is going to turn out or if it is game. Your dog will be fine just let it be a pup. No dog is the same but all APBT's love thier owners. Just my thoughts. Good Luck with your beautiful pup.

Be patient with your pup. It will mature and when it does, the pom will know it. A pom is by no means a game test for an APBT.
