How does he look? He's about 8 months.. I want him to be leaner.. not so much loose skin.. he has some loose skin, but not a whole lot.. just want him to be ripped.. he was the runt of the litter, I think.. am I aiming to high? Is he fine how he is..? Ohh.. also, he's about 45 lbs.

He's a beautiful dog! It's hard to see what you're talking about (i don't see it at all actually), but give him time. This breed is a slow breed to mature. Most are lean & lanky, kinda gangly looking even, until about 1 1/2 yrs or so. Most dogs don't begin filling out until that age or even around 2. And also genetics plays a part in it. You're dog doesn't look to be the short & stocky (eng. bulldog looking) type.

To start getting him active & in good shape, long slow walks are great. Not only is it physiologically good for your dog, but it's mentally good as well. Plus, those walks give y'all some great bonding time together & also offer a chance to get in some basic obedience (like "stop", "let's go", "leave it", etc).

Like I said, I think you're pup looks great from what I can tell. Right now he's a puppy. Let him be a puppy. Trust me, in a year you're going to be wishing he'd be 15lbs of badness...I mean cuteness :D, again.

at 8 months old shouldn't he have loose skin still?? He hasn't completely grown into himself just yet. He is very beautiful.

He is still a pup so let him be one! Your dog is going to continue to grow slightly and fill out until he is atleast 12-14 months. mia had some great recommendations but you really should not try to "shape" a pup. Hard work and lots of running is not great for growing joints. Just let him be a pup and worry about making him appear more lean and muscular after he's done growing and able to handle a heavier workload.

    Regards,

    B

the pup looks fine, all puppys usually have loose skin. They need to grow into something.i agree with walking the pup often, no need to start working it out so soon.

killer pup man, he looks very good. 45lbs? thats nice cause from the standing pics he doesn't look it, so he must be packin some muscle already some where.
just keep walking the hell out of him. does he fetch or play tug-a-war? if so fetch will keep him tight in the hind legs and stomache and tug-a-war will do his back and neck as well as his jaw.
all in all very nice pup. is he fixed? and do you plan to breed?
    ped?

Thanks for all the opinions.. yeah, I usually just take him for long walks.. at least 45 minutes or more a day.. play tug of war with him.. sometimes let him jump for it.. and "fetch," but he doesn't bring it back to me.. just next to me while he lays down and chews on the ball.. he's a rescue from some guy trying to use him as a bait dog when he was a pup.. had cuts all over him, worms and mange when I got him.. he's my pride and joy..
but yeah, those pictures were the day right before I got him neutered.. his ped is unknown.. I really wanted to breed him, but thought really hard about it.. and just decided to neuter him.. didn't wanna add to the backyard bred population crisis.. thanks for all the comments, again..

Ohh.. a question.. he submitted to a Pomerinian the other day.. but he stepped up to a Mastiff before.. everytime the Pom came growling and guarding her territory, he'd run by my side and lay down, then get back up and run back towards her trying to play.. then, same thing.. over and over..
Most dogs don't like him, don't know why, he always just wants to play.. he plays with pit pups just fine.. but when it comes to any other dog.. they growl and bark at him..
But him submitting to a Pom, doesn't sound like he's game.. but it wasn't a fight, so I don't know.. a Rott/Collie mix came half an inch trying to bite his face and he still ran at it, but the Pom was 1/2 a foot away and he submitted.. what's with that?

Just let the pup get plenty of play time and what Mia said was also good, teach the pup leash commands and then off leash.

loose skin for pups is alright.....but i think it takes 3 years for it to be full grown but thats just me and i train them at 2 yrs to pull.

Let it grow and gain confidence. In a year or so you might have a totally different dog (character).
