Personally if I knew for a fact that a dog quit rank but had produced exceptional I'd give him a try myself.

 

jmo...i wouldnt bred a scatter bred dog on gameness alone..space is at a premium around here..dog has to be game and have the ped to back it up. But i do agree with the dog having to stand on his own and prove his worth to be bred. I wont bred a cold dog or a cur dog based on a ped but a ped on a proven dog is a valuable tool.

Eddieem I agree with you on low %'s of breeding cold or cur dogs just because of a pretty ped. But this (for me ) was something I just had to try because of her background of ancestors. This female of mine was real skittish and would not do anything with say more than 5 people around but, with me alone she was a very nasty dog. So I bred her to one of the best (gamest) dogs I had and she ended up being the foundation to a line that is still being used as we speak. Sometimes If you have the room and don't mind wasting a heat cycle it's worth a shot because of her ancestors. By the way 3 of her brothers were useless to. OH WELL!!

 

" a good ped will throw dogs with natural talent but a good dogman will bring that talent out of an average dog" Folks seem to forget that the game is just as much about the breeders,conditioners and handlers as it is about the dogs and peds, you could give a greenhorn a 24x Gr Ch bred whatever and it would still be on him to condition the dog and handle him for the show and if he dont know what hes doing that 24x Gr Ch bred dog will end up in a trash can no matter what his ped says
