The Presa fad died out a while back here in Queens county NYC. The reason for that is because they didn't fair well in street fights and were being curred out by apbts. They also didn't fair well as "attack dogs" since they would attack but after being bashed by a wrench, pipe, brass knuckles, etc. they would cur out. They are also really scared of loud noises, etc. (Personally, I believe it is only because their dogs were poorly bred show dogs, since the ones I've seen were all 130 lbs. and up, not the traditional working presa). The fad breed now, believe it or not, is the dogue be bourdeaux and neapolitan mastiff with a minor resurgence in the cane corso and the apbt mixes (ambullies), are considered the ferrari for wannabes.

presas do horrible in dog matching , from what i see and hear, they cur out very fast , exspecially if loosing from the get go.... but for the idiots its all about the size.... i dont think a 18 inch tall 80 pound am bullie looks tough to me , just looks silly ... at least a presa has some size and height.... Even my 10year old cousin was laughing at this ambullie... thing was real long and short to the ground ... no lie looked like a pig with cropped ears

The sad thing is that these dogs will fly out the doors. Give it a fancy name and charge a fortune and you'll have idiots lining up around the corner for them. There's one born every minute.

  5. Sadly you're absolutely right. Look at all of the 'doodles' out there that started out at $1500 to 2K. Seemed like you could cross anything with a poodle, call it hypoallergenic and sell it for a pile of money. People thought that since a veterinarian was the one to 'develop' the 'breed' that it was legit.

    Nope, doodle = mutt, period.

    Designer dog = mutt, period.

It's sad, too, as most of these dogs end up getting gassed in some pound because the market is so saturated with everyone's idea of the greatest new 'breed' they've developed.

Presas are pretty much like the hardcore steroid injecting meat heads that where the tap out shirts and believes they are an Ultimate Fighter while the apbt is the equivalent to the real deal LOL. From what I've seen and heard, the presas definitely are larger and stronger than an apbt, but they are too cumbersome and lack the stamina. Most can only go for 10 mins. then they just become too flustered and their breathing becomes labored. Those that can jump the pit will and those that can't will just shut down. Half the time, the presa is biting nothing but air. There is an incident that I know of though around my neighborhood where two presas got out an attacked a kid with his apbt. The apbt was a street bred dog and while it got seriously messed up, all the dog required was a few stitches and from what I heard, that dog was a cur and tried to run and made quick snaps, which caused the presas to let go of their holds. You'd think two 140+ lb. dogs would be able to kill a 60 lb. street bred cur, but the only thing they did was cause minor scratch wounds.
