Dogs 101 on APBTs

I didn't watch it on TV, but the link was up so I did..

And keep in mind how many thousands of people watched this..

What the hell do they mean by "they can snap"? :mad::mad::mad:

Yet they also say they are aggressive only if they are raised that way.:confused: There is no mention of dog aggression considerations or that it may be more than most people can handle to have more than one.

 

:eek: scary. especially the summary at the end where it said "okay in any home environment"
also how could they talk about how "pitties" could "snap" or instances of "maulings" etc. etc. but not a single mention or warning about the real concern with the breed as a pet- animal aggression.

 

Well, the dog they paraded around was clearly a blue.

 

Hip dysplasia also isn't that common in APBT, but it is in AmStaffs(surprise). That is fine if they are talking about "pit bulls", but when they specifically say APBT, that is what they should mean.

 

What I don't get, and I said it on another forum, is WHY they choose some random doggy world people to talk about breeds they obviously don't know anything about... instead of getting someone who really knows the breed. I'd rather not see them on TV at all, but if they MUST be why put out completely wrong info?

Loved where they spoke of their incredible jaw pressure too. And how they "Can snap.. Have snapped"
WTF does "snap" mean?! Bite? Maul? Nearly every dog breed has "snapped" then.

 

Funny how the only real 'american pit bull terriers' in the film were petey and the 2 in the box. Full of incorrect information but it could of been worse i suppose.

 

think about how much bs these shows/commentators perpetuate. There is misinformation about most breeds getting sold as truth all the time. ex.) bulldogs are severely undershot so they can breathe in hold, poodles ridiculous haircut was for hunting, dachshunds have to be that shape to go to ground, ...on and on and on...
it's crazy, they would rather be seen as the ones with the info (which they pulled out of their asses) than for everyone to know the facts. pathetic really

 

"He just snapped" = "I knew I had a vicious ass dog, and I never did shit about it, so here I am with an attack on my hands and the Local News crew interviewing me so I am going to say, "He just snapped" and hope that is saves my ass."

 

Exactly, I'm still waiting for someone to accept any of the responsibility themselves - it is much easier to just act like they are clueless(and some of them are.

 

Its animal planet,what do you expect? Do you expect some truth on there? Do you expect anything to change? Stop watching the crap,stop giving them ratings.And stop living in fantasy land people,they aren't going to give any truth on there.Hell its more than likely funded by the hsus or ascpa.

 

Animal Planet is causing all these Soccer moms to rush down and save a "pit bull." They all go in there thinking, "It's not the dog, it's the owner," then they take that Am Bully they just rescued down to the local dog park and make a nice "Pit Bull attacks" intro story for their local news channel. Christ, we need less dogs and less owners, the whole damn thing pisses me off to no end. :mad:

 

The show Underdog to Wonderdog - they had a APBT mix on there from a rescue who had all of their dogs, quite a few, many pit dogs, loose in a big room.
The hosts gave advice to the new adopters on how to manage her fearfulness, and socializing was what they advised them to do - at the local dog park.

And yep, they have more ASPCA and HSUS ads on the channel than I care to count.

I happened to watch one of their dogfighting shows, what was funny was in every seen with a fight, they'd add the sound of dogs screaming and barking and making awful noises, when it's obvious it isn't coming from the two bulldogs.

 

Actually, I didn't see much wrong with it. I do think they should have said that APBTs can be not only DA, but animal aggressive period. But some good points they made were that ...

- They have gotten a bad rap.

- They do not have locking jaws.

- They are not naturally HA, but have to be made that way.

- They are not a dog for everyone.

And from what I understand, they were spot on about the poodle's haircut & the dachund's stature. If you will look neither is restricted to those breeds. For example, the Portugese Water Dog also sports a clip similar for the poodle's for the same reason & the Dandie Dinmont Terrier sports a physique like a dachund's, again for the same reason. I do however believe they are much mistaken on reason for the bulldog's underbite.

I didn't think it was clear they were talking about human aggression when they said that...

Also, it was hilarious how they showed that a fat stumpy English Bulldog mixed with a fox terrier makes an APBT!:eek::eek: I know it isn't supposed to be taken that literally, but you know some dumbshit is going to see that and try to "make their own pitbull" using that magical recipe!!

 

Disapointment is all i can say

 

tell you what, you find a poodle with the best haircut you can find and I'll find a bald, mangey, crippled, half-dead lab, and we'll see which one is in it to win it.

Also, going to ground has nothing to do with length of leg, and everything to do with chest size, so I'm not buying it.
