Turtles are the worst thing in the world for a fish pond, they'll eat your fish.I don't even really like the frogs in mine, but I can't hardly keep them out, they reproduce so fast.At least I can have frog legs about any time I want.

yea i dont care if he eats the fish he'll be the main attraction, its the baby ducks i would worry about.

I haven't heard of one getting a dog,I have heard of one biting a cow in a pond once, but I've seen thousands of cows in ponds with turtles first and last, seen lots of dogs in creeks and ponds and only heard of the one cow getting bit so,the odds are pretty safe. But I sure wouldn't want bit by one.I'd actually worry more about the snakes than the turtles but they usually go the other way too unless you accidently step on it.

I had a snapping turtle the size of a manhole cover lay eggs in my yard last summer! It was pretty cool to watch.

Never seen one get a dog, but when I lived along the mississippi river, I DID see a catfish try and take a 60# chainweight dog! F'ing CRAZY sight to see! Only time in that dogs life I saw a look of fear! He's swimming along and splash! Giant f'ing catfish grabs him by the leg and pulls him under! He dissapeared for a good 10 - 15 seconds and came up with eyes the size of saucers!! Found out later that pretty much that same spot had been where the record catfish had been pulled!

I've swam in creeks, lakes, and ponds with big ass snappers my whole life, and never had a close call. You'd probably have to step right on one to get it to bite you. Also, my dad has an Alligator snapper in an aquarium. My brother and I found it when it was about the size of a silver dollar. Now it's probably 20 fuckin pounds. My dad says he's gonna drill a hole in the lip of the shell and attach a brass ring so he can take it on walks. He calls it Turtle Turtle or TT for short LOL.

Yeah, it took a while for that development. Weird turtle, the only one I ever encountered like that, not that I gave many a chance to be petted.

I tried for 4 summers to catch a ~20 pound albino one, never could grab him, he was always in the deepend and I wouldn't go in water above mid thigh. He was my Moby Dick.

I also may be the only man to ever assault someone with a snapping turtle. Some dude at Bragg didn't like me joking around by lunging a turtle near him, next thing you know he tries to punch me. I was drunk, pissed, and holding a big ass snapping turtle so I swung it at him, lol. He got so scared he cried and then reported me to our First Sergeant. You should have seen the look on that First Sergeant's face when he said, "What is this about you assaulting Peterson with a snapping turtle?" He could barely keep a straight face. I honestly was lucky, that turtle didn't bite the dude and it certainly could have with me swinging it at the dude.

Haven't heard of a snapping turtle biting a bulldog but have heard of a 5 foot alligator biting a 47 # bulldog in florida. The bulldog got away with puncture holes to the right stifle while the gator wound up losing its right eye and was then later caught by animal control. I believe the gator was killed but I'm not too sure about that.

My first BYB pit bull/bully/???? named samson had a real high prey drive and wanted to kill everything and my brother brought over an 8" snapper one day and threw it down in front of him before I had a chance to say anything. Samson would grab it from the side and crunch down real good and then sling it and run over and do it again. After about 5 times the turtles guts started comin up through the top of it's shell. It didn't make it.

My first experience with a big one like that, maybe 15" shell, seemed bigger then... was when I was about 8 and my older brother pulled it out of the water, saw a snake and made me hold onto the beast while he went off running around trying to catch the snake.. It nearly pulled me back in the water with it, I was pretty happy to hand it back over to him

    I like them... Powerful suckers..

Laced. Word of warning from a pond owner, if this is going to be a pond with a liner, a snapper won't like it much. In my experience they like to dig, so he will either leave, or if you have a soft liner, destroy your pond. Not to mention you won't be able to keep fish, frogs, or other pets in the pond with him... Maybe just set up a turtle enclosure
The filtration you'd need for a pond with a big snapper in it would be immense, and expensive if done right. Turtles are messy as hell.
