Marloes, that's a bunch of bull. Dogs can handle salmonella just fine as long as their immune system isn't compromised. They regularly shed it in their feces with no symptoms of the disease. Both kibble fed and raw fed dogs.

haha no man, unless something is wrong with your dog it will be just fine...wouldnt let it get up in your face and lick ya after eating a egg but it will be fine...like most animals, salmonella wont hurt them...

My pitbulls were not huge on the shells. They would get to it but my JRT....oh he will eat the egg straight out of my hand whole if I gave him a chance..

When I tried giving her the shell only yeah she wouldn't want anything to do with it, so since I pre boil the egg for about 1-3 minutes what I do then is I began to crush the whole boiled egg in her bowl and crush crush into fair small sized pieces because that way the shell is attached to most of the egg white and she just gulps that right up.

Dogs are scavengers by nature. Left to their own devices dogs eat dead, rotten things and shit with no ill effects. Their digestive systems are designed to eat carrion. I doubt wolves or foxes softboil their eggs. Raw eggs are natures perfect food. I have been feeding dogs whole raw eggs for damn near 20 years. I suppose if you fed your dog nothing but raw eggs you might have a problem, but a couple times a week does them good. All the nutty things people come up with about feeding dogs always amaze me.

  8. I know horse people that swear feeding their horse a raw egg in their grain everyday does wonders.

well I like to pre boil them because it makes it easier for her to eat the shell, it's much easier for me to crush the whole boiled edd into pieces and she'll have no problem consuming that. I have tried giving the shell when the egg was raw and she wouldn't eat the shell that way.

I save a weeks egg shells then grind into dust and feed a tspn every now and then.
Never feed more than 2 ,3 eggs a week since he's all ready eating raw protein meat daily,he's nearly 12 months and looks, acts great.I think the salmon oil he gets every day of his life is doing magic;):D

  11. Thank you all for the info about the shell. I had no idea it can be given after you grind it. Can the shells harm or cut the dogs intestines if you don't grind it?

I don't grind mine, I just crush it into pieces but even so I highly doubt they will harm the dog if you don't grind them it's just because most dogs probably wouldn't eat the shell if they had to.

My dogs have thrown up when I give them egg shell. I thought it might be because I bought the eggs at the store with preservatives and stuff. Any opinions?

Mine have never thrown them up but, they come out in little white pieces in the poop the next day and I always have to remind myself I fed them eggs the day before when I think they have worms...lol.

i second that! that was the stupidest thing i read, and farm fresh eggs don't contain preservatives in the shell, so you can give them the shell if you feed farm fresh, more calcium anyway...as appose to store bought with preservatives added to the shells to keep them on the shelf longer.

i had a 3 moth old get what i suspect was salmonella , but never tested her, but it was from raw chicken all better on her own in a day or two. and still eats raw chicken like its her favorite meal.

STPFAN knows more about the preservative they use i will ask again what its called..

I don't feed her kibble, which is why it makes it easier for me to break it in her bowl this way. Why is there any harm with boiling the egg?

I know a guy (not a dog) that had salmonella last week and this week he`s doing everything as normal. No one was stressing that he was gonna die.

that's really odd mine have never done this from being fed the egg shell, I only give them the brown eggs which are the organic ones have you tried those?

there is no nutritional difference at all between white and brown eggs- white eggs come from white/light chickens, brown eggs come from brown/dark chickens.
know why brown eggs cost more? cause brown birds are generally larger and cost more to feed.. that cost is passed down to the consumer

and beware of the "organic" label-its a misnomer. just because something is organic does NOT mean its better
