Spoiler Alert: True Blood Tackles Gruesome Sport Of Dogfighting In Latest Episode

    Spoiler Alert!!!!!

Last night on True Blood, the over the top vampire drama introduced a plot line that we’re pretty sure we’ll have animal advocates “barking” up a storm.

Halfway through the episode, we learned that the birth family of Sam Merlotte — a local business owner who also happens to occasionally “shift” into a dog — might be involved in dogfighting. To be clear, we don’t mean that Sam’s family fights dogs, rather, we’re pretty sure they hire themselves out to dogfighters for money (because, remember, they’re half-human, half-dog). Did we mention the show was over the top?

True Blood hasn’t featured any dog-fighting scenes yet, but we’re pretty darn sure that’s where they’re going.

Seems to us that spotlighting dogfighting might be a great way to educate the public about the “sport’s” shear brutality. What do you think? Will True Blood tackle the important issue? Chime in and share your thoughts!

This whole thing was not in the books. It is HBO's doing for ratings. I hate when they change so much for TV or Movies.

They are not half dog. They are shifters and can change into anything that they have seen.

i don't get it what would be so-great about educating the public about the “sport’s” shear brutality? What would that do for the members of this forum, and how would that help are dogs and peoples perception of them and on top of that who says its gruesome?

Love how they use a non-conditioned American Bully to play the part, lolololol

I've been reading the True Blood message boards and a lot of people are crying foul, saying depicting animal cruelty is crossing the line (for a show that is constantly toeing it). Yes but the savage killing/abuse of human beings every episode through throat ripping, head twisting, stabbing, shooting and otherwise physical torture is all fine and dandy. The hypocricy is astounding.

  8. Here are my thoughts...

If I was a man that could turn into a dog for a match then I would bet all of the money that I could muster on the other dog to win. Then I would stand the line, transform back into a man and then walk away with a fist full of dollars.

This would be all the better if I was a shapre shifter because I would always be a different dog, and my shape shifting partner would always be a different looking man. That is an easy racket.

I'm a fan of TrueBlood but that was the stupidest shit I ever saw in over 35 years of tv watchin. American Bully vs Rottweiler. German Shepherds and labs and "it bulls" waiting their "turn" in the "ring". utter and complete bullshit nonsense. Someone Somewhere should know at least half better. But I guess not.

  10. It cracked me up as well.

I said aloud " that dog is too fat to stand a chance."

The gsd's and rotties cracked me up.

They ever had an English Bulldog in there!!

I watched this episode twice, the first time with my mom and the second time with my sister. Neither know much about what historical matching was like. My mom said "Why is a Rottweiler there?" and my sister said "Did they just grab every random dog actor?" LOLOLOLOL. Even my family knows the box is reserved for APBTs. Oh True Blood, you dropped the ball.

  12. I still like the show. So long as they quit trying to become relevant with the () thing. They failed miserably in that area.
