Need Advice- Loose dog. I was bitten! Going to Court

People need to stop worrying about cool points and pick up a fucking newspaper.

Never let your APBT get in a fight in public (even if you are 100% in the legal right) unless you want your dog dead and some big old newspaper headlines about how awful the APBT is. All it takes is a town with an ACO, Magistrate, and Court System that is biased against pit bulls and the law no longer matters.

 

You should tell that to the member who had someone else's off leash dog run at her, her dog, and her baby. She did nothing wrong and the owner of the other dog came out and shot her dog in front of her and her children.

APBT hysteria in 99% of the United States is at an all time high. Maybe you are fortunate enough to live in a town with an Animal Control Officer, Residents, and Court System that cares about the laws.

Unfortunately most of us do not get to enjoy such a luxury and even an APBT get attacked in public and not causing any harm can end with a dead dog, let alone letting the public see how well equipped an APBT is to deal with an attacking dog. Unless your life is in danger - handle it yourself in public.

In the county I live in If your animal bites another animal regardless of situation they will be quarantined. Now if they are UTD on vaccines it will only be a 10 day home quarantine.

So IMO I know I do not want AC or the Health Department having a reasont o come to my house.

UPDATE- Since I haven't been on here in forever.....

The Lab's owner happens to know my Uncle. My medical bills($1200 ER bill plus $200 for antibiotics) were paid right along with the $700 plus she received in citations. She no longer has the Lab and every time she sees me won't make eye contact. Her sister, her sisters kids and her kids stopped me on a walk with Legend to pet and play with him. Of course since she was outside I had to chat her sister up just to make her uncomfortable. Lol (I know not nice but I couldn't resist)

You say, "the owner was cited, and in a month you have to go to court for it?" I presume that is because the owner will get a fine(dog at large) and pay for license & show proof of vaccination? The ACO people know what has happened and have given the owner a deadline? Why do you have to go, unless it is to sue for medical bills..I presume you didn't have coverage?
Maybe the owner doesn't have any money..? No, it's not right that any dog is running loose, and I'm not defending it.
Despite everything, the end result will be her dogs life on the line...not hers

Ummm... The dog was not taken from her. They gave the dog away.

No at the time I did not have medical coverage I was out of work taking care of my sick grandparents. I was living off savings. I was not going to take money out of my own pocket for her mishap. She gave the dog away. Around here ACO is more nice then they should be. As where the cops here shoot dogs and don't give a damn and you'll still get fined.

I'm a firm believer if a person can not be responsible for their and their dogs actions then they should not be allowed to own one.

In this case it was very simple put the dog behind the fence that you have instead of letting him roam free out front unattended.

Let your dog eat the loose mutt,then mysteriously lose/sell the dog.

When everyone's stopped asking questions buy another dog that looks really,really similar.
