make sure you put enough gravel or it will sink in.

4" perferated tile...easy to put in and works like a charm. it wont matter what you use as a base if you got standing water

lay it down in the spot and make the area cement. Makes for easy cleaning and no more standing in mud.

wouldnt that be rough on the paws for an active dog?

I don't think cement would be much good for a chain spot. I figure it would be pretty hard on their pads, and joints. Also would be hot as hell during the summer, and cold as ice in the winter.

i put a french drain in underground in the shape of an "X" downhill about a foot from the axle.

i let it wear down to mud then put down sand. drains like a charm and there's no problem with mud anymore. easy on the paws so far; no cracking or anything on pads, and it keeps nails smooth, too.

although, the "sand" i get might be similar to your "ruckdust." it's finely chipped rocks, nothing like beach sand.

it's 12 bucks per ton, and it evenly covered the chainspot....i have a 12 foot chain, about a foot and a half is underground.

Yeh i agree totally with the sand idea. Think about it, if you live near the coast its free! And it compacts pretty quickly and drains pretty well too. The only downside to sand is us having a half indoor half outdoor dog, The sand is menacing at the best of times to get out of his paws and coat before he comes in. But I'll be pinching dads old industrial vaccum soon so guess thats just a small price to pay for now.:)

so yeah?? sand... or no??? i would think it would gather @ the axle.....which i hate...... but its better then a mud pit..... i have sprinklers.....it aint even winter yet, i gotta figure something out...quick....

I would try the rock dust laced that dam sand also gets all in thier ears and eyes and everywhere else.Or if anything try gravel i wouldnt fool with sand just my 2 cents

Is the ground level or bumpy? Do your dogs dig a lot?

Level out the chain spot and fill in any pot holes, next apply a layer of pea gravel first then a layer of 1/4" rock. Drains well and you won't lose any rock. Never had any pad problems either.

another option would be just cut the sprinklers off on that particular section of your yard.

lol OG just tryin to give him some ideas.Sprinkler sysytems can have alot of diff stations meaning all the sprinklers dont cut on at the same time unless you got a very small yard. For instance if for some reason you dont want a certain part of your yard watered u just go in to the main box and shut that station down for that day or however long you desire.U can set the time and day u want your yard watered you can do it everyday 5 times a day if thats what u want.Pretty modern technology.

man i wouldnt put my dogs over a sprinkler system I can see that turning bad. They would had the lines dug up and chewed in to.I hate to use a water hose around mine they constantly trying to attack it.Its a pain in the ass.Good luck with that one laced.I mean even my jack russells do it.
