there have been plenty of successfull hard mouthed dogs that were undershot. level, under, over, dogs have bite if they wanna..... that is what it comes down to

undershot is talking abit more time ...to get it in ..when its in ..its between the jaws instead front teeth ....
with breeding its preferable the male has perfect teeth ....

    +1 on that.

Seen many hard working undershots. Buddy Red, just curious, do you have an undershot that you're skeptical of? If so, I wouldn't be worried as long as hes acting good and showing good signs. If you worried about performance (ie holding), just look at ABs they they can hold with the best of them and they are under shot.

Like Lee D said the bites in the dog not the jaw...

i think it can be good thing but its all in the dogs brain if it wants to hold hard or not not in the jaw struture

I do not agree with the if he wants to bite hard he bites hard,,, mode of thinking.... Any physical attribute is directly correlated with the skeletal and muscular structure from its bio mechanics with leverage being determined by physics thru angles and bone placement... I may want to run fast, but if my legs are short I won't be able to run as fast as someone with legs best adapt to fast running... The heart and will lies with-in the complex genetics of personality type, some say its also linked with other genes, but anything to do with abilities has do with how the body and it's parts are made.

I look at it like this - an undershot dog may bite like hell because he wants to, but he could bite that much better if he had better structure. A dog with bad conformation may be game as hell, but how much more stamina would he have if he also was put together right? An individual dog can be good with those setbacks, but overall it is not going to better the breed.

how many undershot dogs you seen BR? i agree the mechanics gotta be there for some things to get done, but bite doesnt seem to be one of em. just like there are dogs with perfect bite that cant bite thru a wet paper bag. might not make sense, but its a fact.
