DP "drying out" has nothing to do with H2o intake. it is a slang turm for fluid retention inside the dogs body ie muscles. (basic explanation) the more they work out there muscles brake down. fluid protects them whyle they rebuild. the soreness comes from that process braking & rebuilding of muscles. there's lots of ways to "dry out" a dog but that's a simple way to understand what it means. more muscle = more weight & a lot of that comes from fluid inside the body . if you watch body building they talk a lot about "water retention" how to dry them out is a science in it self & im not going to get into that.

well i heard about people doing this to game cocks so i was just wondering if it'll work on dogs. Of course water is very important for every living thing. But giving your dog a bucket of water is no good b4 a run.:dogdrink:

BB you are on the money with your reply! The problem is all the backward ass people who use outdated keeps and outdated terminology. If you were to buy a $300,000 Lamborghini would you run it hard on low coolants?....HELL NO! It's about the subcuntaneous water below the skin to get a dog as light as possible...nothing more nothing LESS!

LMAO the truth is a lot of people have their own ideal about why .. and a lot of them are wrong . if you work a dog hard long enough yes it will dry out its your job figure out where to go next .. all this stuff is just like talking about the peak the truth is that these kinds of things will always be the difference between the internet dogmen and the real deal .. you can never read enough to figure it out lol .. by the way any one that would talk about these things is wrong in doing so trade secrets people these things should be kept and passed from friend to friend only not posted so that some dipshit can read it and a year later regurgitate it for the next person to make himself feel like a big shot .

Although your comment doesn't seem to fit the description of "drying out" ,whatever that means, you bring up an interesting point. Funny things can happen when pulling at a show. Dog could all of a sudden want some water in middle of pull.

dry 'em out to much, and you might go home with a w but you'll have your charge in a bag, too. (referring historically to dog matching)

Re: conditioning a dog "drying out method"

if you know the correct weight for the dog you are working and also happen to know how to condition, you dont need to dry any dog out. that is just stupid IMO. i am fortunate to have a mentor that has been working dogs for 25 years and has a great track record. he doesnt believe in it, and doesnt do anything fancy just hard work, dedication, and a good dog is all you need to be competitive in this sport. the only time i would even consider using dex or reduce water intake would be for a confirmation show when it wont end up killing your dog or causing him/her to lose.
