    Good answer Knock...
Well, the question is...if we had to start our yard over...if I had to start over, I would want to make sure its with a AWESOME foundation bitch, so if it meant I had to pass over the bitch you talking about, then I would. For 2 reasons, 1. she can't be THAT special as you don't know if she will prove herself, and #2...and the biggest reason of all...she hasn't produced anything valuable yet. If I had to start over, I'd want to start over with a proven brood bitch, not a young prospect...
And you aren't stupid for asking questions :-D

fuck the bloodlines, especially starting out. u wont know what u like till u have it. just get a good bitch and breed her to a great stud. this is called "best to the best" which basically means breeding the best u have to the best u can get your hands on. there have been breedings in the past like zebo x honeybunch (2 rom dogs) that when they were bred didnt produce shit. but u have a better chance of something great when u splurge and breed to the best possible dog u can get your hands on. but dont follow someone elses breeding pattern to stay within a bloodline breed to what u feel will produce great and keep everything and cull from there and keep doing this over and over till u have some hard tested great [] quality dogs and then. compete. if it quites in a match dont breed it and burry it. if it is winning include it in your breeding program. but i would suggest going to proven stud dogs till u have found good winning dogs that you breed your self to breed to. it will take some time around 5 years, but people who keep what they breed and compete with what they breed earn more respect amoung peers than people who breed and sell their dogs. but like i said it will be alot of work and making long drives to travel to a worthy studs but it would be worth it in the long run.

  3. Thanks you guys. I'm feeling much better about hanging on to this bitch for a while now :) She's only 17 months old (almost) and I really like her. I've got a LOT to learn though and am looking forward to learning it from y'all! Thanks for being here on this WONDERFUL board!!!

Raise that bitch up and see how she turns out...that is in your best interest. Your friend PUSHING you to sell the dog or get rid of the dog and to buy one from him says to me, he isn't really your friend is he??? If I wanted my friend to have some of my blood, I'd just give him a dog and say, hey, if it turns out let me get something off of it or breed to it...thats what friends do.

  5. Damn BB. THAT makes a hell of a lot of sense to me. Sure am wishing I'd have found this board BEFORE I bought the dog :( The other thing that strikes me as odd is he tells me that his dogs are worth $800 to $2000 but that when I breed Blaze that I'll get only $500 for any of the pups that I sell (IF I even sell any ;)) but yet for Blaze himself I paid the $500 cash AND have to give him pick male and pick female from his first litter.

beware of snakes and con artist. and about what i read how u owe him a pup also. i would give him the pup and be on your way. when ever u make a deal follow it through even if you were screwed, it shows real character and u will earn more peoples respect cause u followed through with your word.

If thats true, the only advice I can give is to find new friends.

  8. I do indeed always follow through with my word. It might not be able to happen right away but it does always happen...even if it doesn't make me happy in the least.

  9. It's true alright...unfortunately. I've learned a valuable lesson here that's for sure. And you're right...I need to find new friends. Of course that's why I'm here :)

First off you need to say to yourself what exactly you want the dogs for? As we all use them for different things....Show, pull, hunting, house dog or what ever??? Most of the time scattered bred dog 's ( even if it's a good dog it self ) do not produce good dogs...Just a thought for you..Me if that was my dog and I really liked her, I would just keep her as a house dog and that's it...True a pedigree don't make a dog, but when you want to breed that dog a pedigree does play a large part. No matter how much people like to say it don't..Whats the first thing most people ask when they want to get a dog??? Hows the dog bred...lol..Or I want a dog off this or that bloodline...If the bloodline didn't matter we would never ask those questions... You want to breed along its family lines or just straight out cross the dog, so a pedigree does play a large part...

If I was to start all over...I would still use the GR.CH.Nigerino bloodline ...I would have just got some of my GR.CH.Nigerino dogs from some different people ....YIS

  11. I'm for sure wanting to do show and pull. I think if I were to take her into the show ring after I get her conditioned she'd do rather well. I know she'll do good at pulling as well. I'm not in a position to be able to get anymore dogs due to $$ and space so I've got to work with what I've got.

If I had to start over from scratch, I would go the Earl Jr route or Nigerino route, but I am pleased with what I have now:D

If thats all you want her for, then she should be good for that....Good luck

I don't think anyone should try and start "A YARD". Trying to start a yard is to get ahead of yourself. A yard can only come from what DOGS you first settle on as what you have seen and want to TRY to begin with.

The advice to not rush was excellent. Don't chase lineages or dead dogs. Lineages are too vastly disbursed, peddled and impossible to generalize as to quality. Take your time to learn who breeds the right dogs in the right way, and learn to understand why they bred them. Good luck.

Yea TDK I don't think one should "try" to start a yard. Its easy to breed up a yard full of dogs, what the dogs quality is should be first key.

I think if i was starting out i would like to try some of that old mims stuff that was heavy snooty.
And also some E.Crenshaw stuff down from Stu Fowler. And some heavy Carver blood through Stompanato.

If you want advice on starting with the dogs.

    1. It's best to learn from your own experiences. So get out there and do what ever needs to be done.
    2. Don't believe everything you hear, however do take everything you hear on board, until you can prove otherwise through your own experiences.

I'd stay away from dog salesmen and stay away from looking for [insert old dead dog] type dogs. This really limits you and will open you up to more dog collectors and more salesmen. Right now I'm happy with the boyles crosses I have settled on so I guess I would start with these Paz/Dirty Mary crossed dogs.
