Hi, I would be greatfull if you guys could give me suggestions on raw diets that have worked for you in your experience. Also would you recommend Orijen Large breed puppy(£49 for 13.5kg) or Taste of the Wild High Prairie (£47 for 13.6kg). Thanks in advance.

I use 1 raw chicken quarters w/bone as my base....add a few 3-4 oz of organ meat (livers, hearts, gizzards, green tripe, offal etc....), fish oil and wheat germ oil. If the stool is soft add more bone! (chicken/turkey necks or backs)

*Feed liver once or twice a week and I feed a "FISH ONLY MEAL" 1 day a week as well! (a bag of 8 pcs of frozen mackeral is about $2)

why would you say feed liver only once or twice, is it because it is fattening?

Liver is high in vitamin A which is fat soluble so gets stored in the body. Too much may lead to toxicity...too much will give your dog soft stools as well!

I'm now currently on Orijen puppy (but not the large breed, apbt's are a medium breed IMO lol) for about 80€ for 13.5 kg. (roughly 108$ for 30lbs)

I do however started to mix in some raw now and then.

his raw diet consists mostly of chicken, heart, liver, bones and every now and then parts that we consume to such as steak (usually when the butcher is out of left overs :p)

however Rajennn, I would try to get to the closest butcher for meat, way less expensive. I get about 4 lbs of whatever I want, liver, heart, gizzards, tripe,... ANY leftovers for about 3 bucks...
the bones are totally free and I'm allways returning with a HUGE bag full of bones.
with the bones I'm given each time I go I can easily go for a whole month. :D

These diets sound heavy to me. How many times would you recommend feeding raw a day? Twice right?

Chicken quarters with bone, chicken wings and legs are usually my base. I will use thighs as well and now I incorporate lamb shoulder blades or lamb legs. In her bowl I will add chicken gizzards about twice a week and chicken liver once a week along with maybe a teaspoonful of plain non fat yogurt or cottage cheese and veggies I use steamed carrots or broccoli maybe 3 times during the week and also maybe about a cup of steamed white rice 3 days in the week. I also give boiled eggs about every other 2 days.

I dont know who does this twice a day, alot of people feed once a day, and take a day off of it once a week.

    TOTW worked fine for me.

  15. I personally think a 6 month old pup should still be fed 2-3 times a day,I start feeding once a day around 9-10 months. And I never fast a growing pup.
The landywoods website looks good,I'd get the turkey mince with bone, some chunked hearts and livers, and minced lamb tripe. As far as bones go,Turkey necks, turkey wings and chicken backs are all great for pups.
I have a seperate freezer just for dog food so I'd go nuts on that website. lol.

As far as quantity that depends on how much your pup weighs now and how much you'd approximately expect it to weigh when full grown.

the thing with raw is that some dogs drop weight and lean up too fast...

my dog dropped 5 pounds in 3 weeks on one a day....i basically gave him 1 leg quarter, some organs, pumpkin, and supplements...

i no feed him twice a day...the same as above in the morning, and then 1 thigh or drumstick at night...and hes looking a bit too thick than i like, but cant keep them super ripped all year...lol

  17. Only if they're not fed enough.Same as any other food,if you don't feed enough kibble they'll drop weight too fast as well.
