I am a firm believer that a good ped does not necessarily make a good dog. and vice versa. there are many good dogs out there with unknown lineage. a ped isn't everything. It does play a huge role in breeding decisions or puppy-picking decisions. but there are many fine dogs out there with great abilities and fantastic conformation that have no papers. people should not discount a great dog just because he/she has an unknown background, as has already been demonstrated by others in this thread.

on the same token, there are dogs that have a fantastic ped that are shit in conformation or abilities. it just takes a good eye to know this difference.

and i know i am preaching to the choir here. but i feel i should put my two cents worth in. :)

here in ireland most apbts are of pedigree unknown. It is possible to make an educated guess about a dogs breeding using peds online,a limited number of dogs were imported back in the eighties reid ,mayfield, bolio mainly and a few good ones since but the later imports descendants are confined within a close circle and not widely available.e.g indiann sonny or banjo bloodlines.a good dogs lack of a pedigree dosent make him any less of a dog but it could be tricky matching sires with dams.but breeding is a lucky dip anyway,i.e a disproportionate number of champion greyhounds were born from accidental matings where a dog jumped the fence(planned by nature??)I.M.O unless you know a breeder very well you can only trust what youve bred yourself.

I wouldnt even say you could take a guess on 99% of Irish dogs unless you knew the breeder and what kinda blood they had before, I have never seen a pitbull in this country with a ped but then again I just dont know the right people I suppose.
What do you have yourself Culabula?

I keep working terriers myself.most of my dogs have a fair dash of pitbull in them. The bitch on the groundin my profile pic is an apbt/plummer terrier cross.I was looking after my friends pitbulls while he was in jail but they were taken by the authorities.there used to be a woman in dublin who advertised a stud dog on donedeal and pups occasionally.she knew all the breeding of them which is rare enough here.i dont know her but might have her phone number somewhere

Of course, I have seen many different dogs with no papers in here that kicked amazin pedigrees the last international convention I went in Mexico two Serbian dogs and a Mexican flashy pedigree dog lost to Mexican no papered dogs.... Difficult to get.... Yes

  12. That is because most people including yourself are obviously very uneducated in the breed or fairly new. Bowlings Loner was a nasty 2xw open to the world after with no takers. Woods Bandit had over 5 hrs of pit time in only 2 matches. Etc etc etc. And many other dogs that are on there that were amazing animals. And as far as Virgil. I can vouche that he himself was pretty much an ace and maybe the best I had ever seen. And to top it off he has produced very well and his sons are producing the same etc. Sometimes a little research goes a long way :)

  15. theres dogs in ireland with peds i had a indian cross fbk s bitch a few years ago so they can be found, we also had dogs with no peds that were decent that produced decent pups and didnt dilute anything off the bitches background to us some off them gained in ability and mouth and were still game so was worth the chance , id been told they wouldnt be game by the ped pushers at the end of the day these bull terriers came from somewere and proved themselves time and time again !
