First, that's dog's in decent form for an unworked yard dog. Nice muscle tone. It says "dog that isn't cooped up all day, has room to move and is surely eating. A little work in him would cover those points (hips, ribs) that some may find a little questionable.

His skin, however, says "somthing's missing" in the diet. I know how that is. Sometimes it takes a little time and food research to find out that thing that helps flip a dog's metabolism over from "doing ok" to "thriving."

If you have means, get a scale. Or, if he's calm enough to pick up and weigh, step on your bathroom scale with him. I wouldn't let him drop a quarter pound under this weight. In fact, I would add a half cup more food and two to three table-spoons of a good(somebody fill in the name of this oil,..................) omega three oil that you can pick up from the grocery store today, while you hunt for a good bottle of salmon or herring.

About the stones. Stones could be a contributing factor. I took care of a rock eater for a friend a few years ago. Almost three weeks at my house and eating chicken backs, the dog threw up enough small stones to build a foundation for a NY townhouse. I didn't have any rocks on my yard, so I called and found out that the dog was kept in a run with pebbles and apparently took a liking to them. Sometimes when thinkgs can't pass out the back end, a dog is sometimes lucky enough to be able to vomit it back up. My view of things is that if something is bothering us enough to worry and ask about, it is worth double checking and doing something about. Do something about the rocks. Take a rake a two hours, and get as many of whose rocks out. OF course he'll go dig up more, but you might reduce his risk of him swallowing the wrong stone.

Depending on how his stomach reacts, and stools come out, feed him until he gains two more pound, then retake pics and let us see what he looks like. Anyway. Nice looking dog, and the folks are right, about changing feed. You can supplement almost any food into working for your dog. However, if the base food isn't doing right by your dog, look for a better food for your dog and your budget.

I don't know...To me he looks like he is lacking muscle tone even for just a yard dog, It looks like he is just flat doing lousy on the feed.

He is just a might rangy looking for the way he is put together.

Oh there have been dogs that looked way worse, But to me I just think something is lacking there in the feed department.

he looks fine a bit thin bt fine

  9. maybe alittle, if his coat is shinny and he has alot a of engery dont worry about it. I feed Kirkland too my doggs like it but I also give them bacon fat, or a samon oil or just fish oil. I have found that if you add brown rice too that helps. have his stool checked by your vet. just take a bagge in with a sample init and most vet will check it and tell you if he has worms. a lot of the wormer u by over the counter do not get all of them.:dogkiss:tru-gritpits

If your concerned or he starts showing hip bone maybe you should change his feed to something with a more protein concentration. He looks fine as he is though. Good looking pup!

yeah he does look in decent shape but I agree with OT he just looks like he may be lacking in his feed to not give an excellent condition in my opinion, it's not something as serious though nice dog.

I normally do not upfeed for winter, so he gets pretty thin in that season and even a lil after as you can see, I upped his feed by one cup , so he gets 3 1/2 cups now, he is adding weight now, both my dogs do not have the best coats, after all they are yard dogs, and do not set foot in the house, it gets dusty here in Az.

Well being a yard dog really doesn't affect the overall coat quality, It is dusty and hot where I am as well but at the same time if you just wipe my dogs down they shine like a new penny. But it isn't just the coat I am noticing, I am noticing a lot of things that would make me want to change his feed.

I would suggest you try a different feed and see what results you get.

Do you mind pointing out the things you observe from looking at him? I want to get an idea of things to look for.
