Do you know some guys that already own a APBT? if so ask and spend some time with dog, get some first hand advise.

  8. The pit is not a dog that you can just buy and forget about. This is a breed that requires a ton of work. I don't know if you have kids or what enviroment the dog will be brought into. A little more information would help.

The right time is when you have some stability in your life, and spare time to spend in your dog, those dogs need lot of education, discipline and work and you'll have a happy dog and you'll be proud of your friend.

Your ready for an House APBT when
    1. You and your family have decided that you all have plenty of time for it.
    2. You know a good breeder that culled out all of the man biter genes.

i see. ty 4 the tips!!

  13. Will the dog be kept in the house or on a chain set up? Will the dog be socialized accordingly? Are you buying the dog from a "working" kennel that has game stock?

@ lakewood kept as a house dog. socialize accordingly? of course yes. i have kids and have many many nieces and nephews that are small so socialize is a YES! would like to get from game stock if I could.

go to a shelter! if your not gonna be working the dog theres no need for a working dog.
theres plenty of good house pets that are gonna die today. go pick one up.

plus i HIGHLY suggest rescuing a well mannered couch potato "pit bull" and see if you can even deal with THAT first before even flirting with the idea of a well bred bulldog!

  16. Game stock is the way to go with the kids. The will never be a better protector for the kids then a game bred dog. This does have its draw backs though. If the dog is left home alone, make sure that he does not have access to the windows. I've had a few go through bay windows after cats and squirrels.

As far as them hunting squirrels, the excel at these behaviors.

A lot of good thoughts in here!;)

There not for everyone, I got lots of buddies i wouldn't trust with a hamster!!!, you don't know what your getting in to.....

I got friends i can't get to feed my dogs when away, they don't understand, leave the dog on the chain..they don't play together .......these are not normal dogs, they require constant supervision and or proper containment, when your around and not around.

You will constantly have to be aware of all surroundings and other loose animals, dog parks and most public walking is out of the question depending on your location of your home, do you have a fenced yard?
, Do you have the time, READ AS MUCH AS YOU CAN EVEN IF IT TAKES A YEAR... be patient, and learn about the bred first.....
