honestly its a lose lose situation to match a pit against a dogo, tosa, kangal or what ever dog you could mix up and throw in a pit. If the pit wins then your other dog is a pussy, and if the larger dog wins its all about size. Then your either out a game dog or feeding a 100 lbs bitch.

I'm confused by your comment. You wrote "some reports show that the APBT has been bred into sled dogs and even some greyhounds to actually improve their abilities" Then you wrote "I wasn't there. I have just heard reports of such from very educated old timer dogmen". So did you see the so called "reports" or did you hear some "reports"? I'm curious to know because I've never heard this and would love to see these "reports". I just have a hard time believing that. :D:dogkiss:

I haven't seen those reports myself, but my source is an old timer that has no reason to lie and is VERY educated on performance dogs of many breeds with a lifetime of work with sporting APBTs and also contacts with sporting greyhounds and mushing sled dogs that competed in events across the country. He owns a K9 nutrition business and has been involved in these working breeds as a conditioning advisor for decades specializing in performance dog foods, k9 exercise, and recovery...including performance kibbles and many raw meats such as "musher's meat." He has also been published in various k9 journals. And, having known this man for several years I know he has no motive to misrepresent this information...and is way too intelligent to just make something like that up without knowing of these reports first hand and/or without personal knowledge on such. I myself have been able to verify the accuracy of many of his reports, but this particular one is something I never personally checked into as it didn't really matter to me one way or the other. That said, again, I would believe my source as I have no reason to doubt his knowledge which has proven itself accurate time and time again.

Well, maybe we talking about two different types of dogs. The gamebred APBT I'm writing about and know of is an imported dog from Ireland, England and Scotland. Bloodlines such as, Colby, Feeley, Armitage, Henry, Corcoran which 90% of today's APBT can be traced back to have pedigree's that go back to the early to mid 1800's. That's over 200 years ago! Colby claims to have pedigree's that date to the late 1700's! So your source must be talking about some other dog because unless he's 300 yrs old I don't know how he or anyone else for that matter would know that. I also don't see how you can add a greyhound to the APBT and keep its same characteristics. The Greyhound weigh 75 to 80 lbs and has a head that is really long and thin.:D Again, not saying it can't be done just very hard to believe.

99.9% here are hobby breeders so i dont know why they trash bullies, folks here just breed hot pups and match peds just right. ok moving on.
now I cant say %100 or %1 fact but a guy told me his razor edge wrecked a mayday
The Originator of Razor edge said the same damn thing might i add he said this personally
On the other hand I just saw a video of a rotty making a blue dog look like a poodle, the owner shot the rotty(ass hole)
so it looks like that blue stuff dosent even posses the will anymore, which I honestly thought was impossible 15 years ago. They Bred it all out and created something diffrent. I dont think they even pull weights for the most part no drive. They will make perfect lap dogs though nothing wrong with that I tried to make a bobby hall dog into a house dog and I just couldnt change her, Bitches man I tell ya

If done right, you wouldn't see the influence. The crossing wasn't done for cosmetic reasons. Also, I didn't say the "greyhound was added to the APBT." (And for the record, nor did I say the sled dog was added to the APBT). I said the APBT was added to the greyhound and also the sled dogs. And, on that note, I am not referring to the foundation lines of greyhounds or sled dogs. BOTH have been around longer than the APBT has.

He was talking about MODERN day dogs used for cross country sled work and for racing greyhounds that were used on longer courses.

If you can't understand how someone uses and outcross, I will explain it here for you.

Say a breeder has a line of "A" performance dogs of breed "X." He wants to add or improve on a certain characteristic. He looks for the appropriate outcross. He finds a line of dogs that I will refer to as line "B" of maybe the same breed...or perhaps even of a different breed should the breeder so wish.

He crosses a tightly bred good example of his "A" line of dogs of breed "X" to a tightly bred good example of the line "B" dog that is known to carry and throw the desired trait he wishes to improve. Of the offspring produced, one of 3 things will happen...

    1. None of the F1 offspring produced from A x B work out or show the desired improvement, as the trait seems recessive (a recessive trait is harder to catch initially, but once caught it is easy to keep since only homozygous recessive individuals carry such trait...and this would get even more complex should the trait be polygenic)...so at this point should this be the case the breeder can decide if he wants to work on it more.

    2. Some of the F1 dogs produced from the A x B breeding show the desired trait. Could result from a specific combo of a polygenetic quantitative trait, or as a result of a co-dominant or incomplete dominant monogenic genotypic combo. (see possibility 3 on how to proceed).

    3. Many or all of the F1 offspring produced from the A x B breeding show the desired trait, which could result in a simple dominant monogenic trait. From here (both 2 and 3) one simply selects the best performing dogs that both display the desired improvement while also displaying the ability to perform most like the "A" line dogs. These F1 dogs would be bred back to either to their parent "A" and/or to several other dogs from line "A" while continuing to select for both the traits of "A" and the improvement from "B." Should this be the case, one may be able to achieve the desired result over successive generations; therefore, producing an "improved line A" that has captured the desired trait from line "B."

It was my understanding that the goal for adding the APBT to the breeds above was to improve recovery time for the sled dogs and to improve endurance for the greyhound. Anyway, those are the reports as they were given to me.

    good post boog
and i have heard of dogmen adding all kinds of stuff to the apbt back in the day
if they thought it would help then they added it
the breed wasnt always the elite fighting dog, it had to be created just like every other breed. lets not forget what the apbt started as lol...

  10. There are freeks out there in all breeds. They can and have killed pits. THe mountain aerdale, the Rottie, some sheppards, Ridge backs. It does happen. The pitbull is the true champion though.

The pit bull was used in a few other breeds also. The irish setter had pit bulls bred into them years ago. They were used to improve the health, disease resistance, and other health problems of these breeds. It was done with the help of A.K.C. Some breeds that are bred for certain physical characteristics loose much of their natural ability and health as a result. The influx of the pit bull resulted in a more healthy dog.
