The other problem is that Game Dogs usually are the best bred dogs in every catagory and not just for fighting. Many game bred dogs are smarter, more athletic, stable, and human friendly. There are always exceptions but theses dogs have so much to offer...Gameness #1 but the other stuff is very important also.

87buick.... I had an 87 Lesabre... Hell of a car, but yea man the laws although bullshit are harsh. And they are looking to put people in jail. But in my opinion it doesn't take a match to prove a dog DG.... If this was 1974 I'd probly have a lot of dogs I'd be lookin to match just to check quality but it ain't '74 it's 2013..... So to quote what was said before "those that need to know will know" and those that don't.........

Amen to that coach...some people have no clue...These pitbulls have proved themselves for many many years...you cannot breed the gameness out of a true american pitbull terrier...its the heart of the dog that proves game..and not every dog has heart...Its the luck of the draw called life...some are.winners and some are losers..

You can breed gameness out of these dogs where do you think the Akc Amstaff came from? So if what you are saying is true Rich than we should see a large number of Akc amstaffs in the box proving their gameness in other parts of the world. Since the Amstaff is genetically cut from the same cloth as an Apbt what seperates them in todays world is purpose they have been bred away from the box for so long that they no longer posess the original traits of their ancestors (gameness) and even DA has been watered down as it's not a desired trait in the Akc amstaff and physically they have evolved into a much heavier boned animal. Look at the standard of a working Apbt and an Akc show Amstaff and you will see the difference.

APBT's and am staffs were at one time ( not all too long ago in terms of evolution) the same damn dog. One started breeding for standard of conformation while the other remained being bred for its original purpose..... Am Staffs came from APBT and no other blood has been introduced from another breed. Gameness can certianly be breed out of a line fairly quickly.

Thank You Agk that is what I was trying to say when I said genetically they are the same dog. The first registered AKC Amstaffs were Game dogs and the longer they were bred for the show ring and away from the box those key traits known to the apbt gameness, and da, were removed from the gene pools and they began to take a different form all together all this was done by breeding game dogs away from their purpose the box. So when you say gameness doesn't just go away I would have to disgaree as the Amstaff is proof that it does, also gameness is a man made trait we have the power to select for it and we have the power to remove it from the gene pools that is why it's important to preserve our breed by breeding for gameness and testing for it each and every generation without it the Apbt doesn't exist.

I disagree...Lets say you have an Amstaff with proven lines behind it..raised from a pup and schooled properly..and if the dog passes all tests then Conditioned by the right person..you never know what you will get...All im sayin is...its in the genetic background of these dogs...i dont see how you can lose those traits...its the heart of the individual dog that proves game...not because the dog had a Grandfather or Sire who was a champion...every dog is different..just my personal opinion...

It's in the genetic background of these dogs because man put it there. But when you are no longer selecting and using that trait what do you think happens to it? Gameness is not an easy trait to obtain if it was you would have far more game dogs than you would curs. And you won't know if you have it unless you are breeding proven dogs and testing their offspring and culling out the curs which should be done each and every generation of breedings. Again gameness is a man made trait we put it in these dogs and we can remove it. Breeding is a science so it's not an opinion their are different variables that come into play with genetics and man has the power to alter them.

Im not tryin to disagree with you sadie...but if you say gameness is a man made trait and can be removed..then it also can be put back into the genepool...Like you said its science.. And the meaning of science in the dictionary is systematic knowledge..esp of the physical world gained through observation and experimentation...

Gameness can easily be bred out of a dog a line in a couple of bad breedings. The AM Staff and APBT were one in the same at a point in time now they r totally different breeds. And yes that game sire or grandsire has a lot to do with your dog the gameness had to passed down so to speak from one generation to the next that's why good breeder's only breeds proven dogs with a proven family of dogs behind them. You seem very new to the dogs which is fine but you have a lot to learn. True Gameness is a very hard trait to breed for but it is the easiest to loose with poor breeding practices. Hell I wish it was simple as the way you describe, very few have seen a true Game bulldog and when you do it leaves a lasting impression on you and should make a person strive to have it in their animals. As Sadie said it is a trait man can remove ex. Am Staff, Blue Bullies or whatever they are called. Best of luck Yis. Ole Man

To do so you would have to breed for gameness. You would be moving away from breeding for show. You would have to test the stock, see what you have and select on the basis of gameness, or breeding the gamest of a breed that has a low level of gameness. why do it?

    Show Staff versus Working Staff
    Show Terrier versus Working Terrier
    Show Greyhound Versus Racing Greyhound

theory of evolution is fairly well proven at this stage

Definitley not new to dogs...hell im looking at my 12 yr old male..Ive bin around game bred dogs for over fifteen years now thats not alot to the old tymers...but back to subject..lets say you breed a Gr. Ch..Sire to a Ch. Dam...there is no guarantee that all the pups will posses gameness...Im gona argue the fact..that gameness is an indivdual trait some have it and some dont ...I personally would much have an all rounded dog...im not saying dont breed for game but also breed for other attributes that can make your dog accell to its full potential...as a competitor or companion...

But you increase your chances of getting game dogs. A all round dog to me must be game the other attributes will all be use less if your dog gameness had to come into play. Redboy dogs are a line known for gameness how would you explain this? For as long as you say you owned dogs and to make a comparison to a Am Staff being game. Gameness is the hardest trait to preserve and the easiest to lose. Yis Ole Man

Emphasis on too many, too many try and fail, too many don't know what's in the heart of a good dog to breed for it in the first place, too many people believe they're professionals, and not too many people putting in the necessary time to know what their dogs are made of. To reiterate too many people think they're breeding for something that they can't even comprehend.

not all ranked dogs are game. and it's very easy to breed the good qualities out within two generations. in all my years I've never seen one person acquired the good trait after losing it. quality comes from usable dogs as a whole not individual. it is totally pointless to breed for low percent. and hope to get that one good dog out of a bunch of trash. I'm quite sure that there's more than a few staffs can show game this. you could pick any breed and you will have dogs that will show game. 1 and dons might be good for the NBA. but it doesn't cut it in the world of brending bulldog.
