So the general rule is if your dog ain't got papers, fix him and make em a house pet, or so that's what I see a lot around here. My question is, have any of you ever had a dog without papers that you fixed, the. As he matured you saw that he really turned it nicely and you regretted ever getting him fixed? I'll make this clear before anyone jumps on my case, NO Im not gonna breed my dog. It's my first APBT and I don't know a damn thing about breeding. Just want to know if that has ever happened to Any of you.

Basically the general rule is breed responsibly. Don't flood the streets with your mistakes. If you have a dog with no papers that turns out to be something you're willing to give a shot then go for it. Just make sure you can keep the litter or have homes lined up.

Personally I don't have the time to breed an unknown dog to a few differently bred bitches and wait for pups to mature just to see if anything clicks. There's nothing wrong with having a couple great dogs on your yard just to enjoy watching them work for as long as they have. Not every swinging dick has to be bred. But again, if you've got the time, space and money to give a great dog of unknown pedigree a shot then go for it. This is also my stance on dogs that are scattered to the point where you don't know which way is up.

i for one have never said not to breed a dog without papers, papers dont mean shit there are many dogs that arent registered that are more worthy of being bred than most registered APBTs out there

When you say no papers I'm assuming no ped. If you know how your dog is bred but just isn't registered then thats a different situation.

I've never fixed my dogs, but I'm pretty good at keeping them put up and only getting bred when I want it to happen. You just have to look at the dog,I have an unpapered dog that I bred this year, first litter she's had for me,she'll turn 6 in July.I decided she was worth a shot. She's a good dog bred to a good dog.But you have to evaluate your dog and decide if it's worth taking a chance on.Don't breed just for the sake of breeding. But then again,I wouldn't pass on a good dog just because it didn't have ADBA papers attached to it.

A dog is bred the way it's bred, papers or no. The KEY is to KNOW how it is bred. I personally have never sent money to anyone so they could send me parchment of something I ALREADY KNOW.

I don't think the general rule is to alter a dog without papers. I am answering this question assuming "without papers" means "unknown lineage." A lot of time effort and consideration has been put into "breeding programs" and "bloodlines." It has provided a wealth of information that allows people guidance in which way to pursue their own breeding. Without ANY knowledge of the dogs background, you significantly heighten your risk for not producing anything of quality. That's fine as long as (as mention above) you have the room to keep the offspring or have willing homes lined up for them.

If the question is simply should you fix dogs without ADBA papers, then I would answer no. If you know how your dog is bred and he/she is a quality dog, the abda paperwork should have no input on whether you breed him/her or not :)

I can excuse the hard core dogman that has a line of dogs, knows and loves how they are bred, and keeps the dogs for his own personal use, culling what he doesn't use and what doesn't work out. But to breed dogs with out papers, having no idea what you have or how the dog is bred, and sell them, or give them away hurts all APBT owners. It's next to impossible to find responsible homes for a whole litter. My local pound is full of pitbulls, the trashy neighborhoods are full of pitbulls. These dogs are a menace. These are the dogs, more often than not, are the ones that get loose and attack people and pets. Having papers on your dogs maintains the value. If you can't sell a pup for $600, then you can still sell for $300, and more often than not goes to someone that knows what they are getting themselves into. The name is the forum is "Game-dog preserving the breed" Why are you in this forum. Why are you here when you don't know if you have a game-bred dog, and your not preserving the breed.

A dog with out paper work is an evolutionary dead end, ( whether they work out or not ) It pays no respect to the countless people that have painstakingly bred and registered their dogs, nor will it count for anything as the APBT gene pool moves toward the future. It's offspring just become one of countless pitbulls that end up in the pound or worse, in some moron's hands

If you read my thread you'd see I never said I was going to breed my dog. Nor did I say my dog isn't game, because personally I don't know if he is or is not. You are the only onethat commented negatively toward me where eveyone else gave GOOD advice And I appreciate it everyone. why would I breed a dog just to give away puppies to people who don't care abot the breed or to give them to shelters? If you knew my story Nd the reason I even have a pitbull at the moment is because I took him off someone hands who was going to give him to a shelter where he would have been put down just because of his breed. Btw your the first to tell me I shouldn't be here if I don't have a game dog( which you have no idea if I so or do not) he could be game bred I just don't know his ped. I'm here to learn and be a better owner, guess that's no a good reason to be here.

I'm sorry my annoyance was not directed at you, but the ill-advised responses to your post. I didn't mean YOU personally, what I meant to say was- Shouldn't some people be asking them selves 1. What does gameness mean? What is a game bred dog? What does it mean to preserve a game bred line. Google is a great tool. Every one starts as a beginner. This should be a great place to ask questions, with out sarcasm, and hassle

Malakimax, should you be talking about posterity's sake on lineages, I am of the accord that the TRUTH is more important than parchment, especially when one is more likely to find the truth in a trusted friend or associate than they are from a piece of paper often paid for by someone frauding a breeding or a dog.
There is only one truth when it comes to how dogs are bred, and something official and with a seal on it DOESN'T always make for that truth. It's as easy, if not easier to lie and make things look official as it is to lie on a personal level.
With a person, you have a feel and/or first hand knowledge about their integrity. With a piece of paper, you are far remote from the source.
Keep in mind, that in my post, I DID say it's important and is a KEY to KNOW how a dog is bred. Not having "papers" is not to say one doesn't know how his or her dogs are bred. It is not to say they can't be trusted to document the truth to you on a personal level.
If I were a newbie, I'd think myself wiser to trust the word of a friend who has shown trustworthy over time before I would trust parchment whereby the source of it's so-called documentation is so far remote and unprovable.
