  1. It's not just liquid ivermectin collies are allergic to it's ANY form of ivermectin. Meaning including heart guard or anything else with it.

True that, however, you had mentioned the liquid form hence why I quoted the liquid form. :) I think the article pretty much covers all that information.

You do have to becareful for sure a 272 mcg why do people give 1/10 cc per 10 lbs which is 1,000 mcg per 10lbs of dog(wrongly giving a dog 4000 mcg if he is 40lbs)14 x's the dose for the 51-100 lb dog as perscribed by the drug co that makes HG tabs! I know folks have done this for yrs and they have a 14 yo hound who is fine but maybe he would be a tiny bit better if the lower dose was given? To much can cause skin rash, swelling, headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, seizure (convulsions), shortness of breath, and numbness or tingling.. I know people who have dogs who just die for no known or have the shits or short of breath and have skin rashes yeah never know just a thought.I mix mine with a base I dilute 10xs and refigerate in a jar. I give 1/4 cc -1/2 of that. I know lots will reply :I have been giving that dose and so did my grandpa and it worked for them. Well if I hep one huy out whose dog doesn't itch or worse any more becuase the dose was lowered cool. I am a nurse I try my best to do my drug calculations to the TEE ..I will never give you 10ccs of insulin instead of 10 ius either lolol. :)

As per the instructions given by the Drug Formulary it need to be given every 30 days to the day to be 100% effective.

Now I among others have let a day or 2 slip by and be late.

  8. It seems like everyone I talk to has a differnt outlook on parasite prevention. I Just listen to my vet. He knows my dog well. I think its well worth it to go to reputable vet and stick with him. never really liked putting my dogs life and health in just anyones hands.

people, as a whole, are by and large-stupid. esp when it comes to the care of thier animals

for those who think "its cold where i live in the winter, so fleas arent an issue" newsflash-fleas can live indoors unknown to you...year round.

as far as refering ~old country vet~ goes-perhaps you should heed your own advice and "dont just believe what you read"...we dissected that whole mess sometime last year...the worst part is its just a sales pitch for his book.

LOL, make up what you want to believe in the fact I posted that link. I posted it for all to read and make your own decisions. LOL you folks crack me up, if you think everything from his mouth is BS, or "just to sell a book" then you need to take your jealous head out of the sand and take a second look.

    :D

just what have i "made up" there mr.college student?
if you dont think that fleas can live indoors in winter than you are wasting mommy and daddy's money at the university. if you were as sharp as you think you are you would realize that i was reffering to OTHER posters in this thread, you didnt come into play until you posted that nonsense link.

as far as your man the "old country vet goes"- he is antiquated at best. he talks of one thing then contradicts it in the next breath (rabies vac. scheduling for example) so no need to tell ME what to do, been doing it for 20 years and proud to say im not jealous, not have my head in the sand. i know what has worked for my dogs, and what the laws are. i have been very vocal in proper veterinary care.

and people ARE stupid- are we to believe that just because this one old vet says something that its gospel? my grandfather is an old, country vet 84 years of age...am i supposed to think that all the "old time" remedies he has are better than modern medical advances? is it no different than human medicine? are there not advances in medical science as life goes on? how is it that we need new flu shots every season? are we not over vaccinating children and the elderly?

RR it is a lost cause. And not worth it. He will claim so much. Just go to peds online and do a search on Babesia. You will see for yourself.

Does anyone up north give Ivermectin year round?I don't know anyone up here that does (even vets don't sell it for the winter months, only the flea stuff).I buy the Ivermectin cheap so I have no problem giving it year round...could someone from up north shed some light?Better safe then sorry, but can the heartworms become immune?

I found the info I needed in another thread.I'm going to dose my dog year round.

i dose year round. even tho i'm from the north and we do have freezing temps, i agree: best to error on the side of caution. (only takes one mosquito to infect a dog) i also dose my dogs with 1%. got a bottle from a feed store and dose slightly under 0.1cc per 10 lbs. i mix that with some sugar water to counter act the bitter taste, typically 5-7 mm of sugar water. draw it up in a syringe and squirt it into the backs of their mouths. for what you'd pay at the vets, if you've multiple dogs, it's worth it. one bottle will last a l-o-n-g time.

^, errrr, that would be ml (or cc) not mm.

I bought some .05 Ivermectin mix from J R Enterprises and give 1ml of the mix they sell. What is the reason for diluting the Ivermectin (is it a must). Thanks for the info!I also read online that the J R Enterprises dose is too high (not sure if that true?).I think my best bet is to buy some 1% Ivermectin and mix it myself.

I from up North(Midwest!) and i give my dogs 1%year round myself. I do it simply out of habit mostly. When a bottle of that 1% is so cheap and how it last for such a long time why not.

i dilute, (add the sugar water), simply to help counteract the bitterness of the taste. it's not a must. not by any means. just makes it more pleasant tasting for the dogs.

and yeah, it's an easy draw if you use a 1 cc syringe. again, i go slightly under.
