they still look more like hounds.

  2. What if those dogs was crossed to a coonhound/APBT crosses of different %'s? I think that would make an excellent hog dog. Especially if the pups were selected for the perfect balance of nose, sight, mouth, gameness, and other good hog dog qualities. Just a thought.:D

Been done and perfected many, many years ago. They just call them curs. And I don't mean the curring out kind. Black-mouth cur, mountain cur etc.... Some have come up with some fanciful histories on the cur breeds but it's the apbt that provided the "backbone" in those breeds. The Plott Hound also and the Catahoula originated with apbt crosses. Long before "pit bull" became a dirty word, old-time breeders admitted to this.

  5. I have seen them. I just feel they need a bit more bulldog in them. More mouth for sure.

it would give them a larger chest which would hold a larger heart and lungs into a more compact body which = more wind

if you want more wind you need to stay away from the greyhound all together. the only way you would wanna cross the greyhound would be for speed

I didn't know there were so many crosses used for HH. Check out the dogs/puppys for sale sections.

This is a very common cross in Australia as part of Bull Arab breeding programs. They also round it out with Great Danes and some Mastiff Breeds.

    End product:

Best hog dogs in the world bar none, in my humble opinion :)

They are actually a lot better looking than I would have thought!

Yes, some of the game would be gone, but if you continued to breed the outcross out would the benefits be worth it?

Having said that, the Dobermann was created with a lot of greyhound...and it was for wind and stamina. Most Dobes pass an AD title with little to no training or conditioning and no problem...just food for thought.

well said and I agree 100%

most of greyhounds of today are bred for speed and don't have a good stamina. But i've seen a few barzoïs with great stamina? are they used sometimes

If a hunter is trying to catch Coyote...you had better have a speedy team of dogs.

personally i like the look and the greyhound was built for speed but also stamina you have to have it if these dogs are going to hunt mayb not the strands that are used for racing but the hunting bred ones definitely both speed and stamina
