Game vs Ability

Ok here is the situation. 2 littermate males, same size. You have to choose one to use for you're bloodline. YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE ONE. Dog 1 has an obvious advantage in ability and has shown to be game. Dog 2 will never be able to match Dog 1's ability but his gameness and heart is just unbelievable. Lets just say that Dog 1 was gr ch ability to make it interesting. Dog 2 is more game than any bulldog you have ever seen times 2. Of course this is just for conversation. I would never conduct any of these activities nor do i believe anyone else on this site would. Lets hear it...

 

JMO... it all depends on the female that u are thinkin bout breeding 2.. u have to go wit wat compliments the other..but thats just me

do u mean breed game to game or ability to ability? ha, do u mean breed ability to game? just curious....

 

its all in wat u want your pups to have... i try to breed one to wat one is lackin in... but they both gonna share some common traits. example... male is very game but less mouth i would breed him to a female wit a heavy mouth... just like math.. 1 plus 1 make 2 hahahahaha

 

If I could only choose one or the other, I would breed to the Gr.Ch.

If you ask me why not take the gr ch? The way you described it it was game and had ability from hell.

 

im just curious. i know which one is a better dog. but for a breeding program is the most important thing is game why not take the gamer dog. not saying i would, just seeing if anyone would.

 

If your criteria stated that the dog with GrCh ability finished ace dogs in under :30 but was proven to quit in :45 in rolls then I'd take the game plug but the GrCh was proven game and had very high ability so thats who I would breed from

 

I'd breed to the gamest dog, I'd take my highest ability bitch to him. And see what I get out of it.

 

i would test the 2 puppies so hard the weeker 1 would get culled the 1 that end up on top is the better game and ability to me.

 

Why not breed both and see who produces better?

 

what if u get 7 pups from each litter and only1 or 2 are even good caliber thats just more culling

 

if someone had that option they prob would but im just seeing how many people would stay true to breeding for gameness or at what point a dogs ability is to high to pass up on

if a dog has much better ability it can easy beat a much gamer dog in a match. if the ability is close than gameness can win the match but in this scenario lets just say dog 2 would last very long against dog 1 even though dog 2 is much more game.

 

I would breed to there father.

well, I could careless if it were gr ch. I'd take my chances with dog 2.
if dog 2 had game from hell the dog was worth breeding to in the next gen. Unmatched heart means everything to me

so IMO,

a dog with heart & gameness is a great dog.
despite the other gr ch.
what if the gr ch produced culls somehow, none were as great where as his litter mate
dog 2 produced champion game dogs.

can't always go with the top dog but like I said......

ha, yeah sounds like a good choice. but based on teh best to best theory if the father produced a grand champ would you not breed to that son if he father wasnt that ability level? hmmm...

 

just me but i would go w/ the game dog. the game dog isnt just all game he as ability too. i just think that when it comes to breeding that true game is a harder thing to come by then abilities. jmo
