I was watching Dogs 101 the other night, and there was a segment on Golden Retrievers. I was half-heartedly listening, until I heard them say something about Goldens being aggressive. NO! Not Goldens! So I rewound the show and listened again.
According to Dr. Nicholas Dodman "Golden Retrievers are #3 on the national bite parade, which is an epidemic of bites these days". German Shepherds are #1 and Chow Chows are #2.

Just thought I would share. I found it really interesting that they actually admitted that Goldens are biters, especially on a semi-popular tv show.

Interesting. Honestly I've only met two goldens that ever bit, both from the same HORRIBLE breeder that pumped out puppy after puppy ..apparantly they're a big name in "English Creme Retriever" kennel. :rolleyes:They were extremely fearful dogs and if I owned dogs with there temperament they would not only be fixed but CULLED. I would not ever consider the breed aggressive. Goldens and Labs (mixes not necessarily included) are supposed to be stable, people loving dogs. Just like with APBT...a few bad individuals coming from piss poor idiot breeders shoudln't be used as an example for the whole breed.
As far as GSD's, I've met only a handful of purebreds that would bite unprovoked and about 20x as many poorly bred mixed up GSD mutts that were extremely unstable.

Chows are another story although I don't think they should be banned either, just controlled by their owners like all dogs. There are plenty of breeds that are more likely to bite people more than others in fact I have one dog who will be more than happy to bite for whatever reason but NEVER HAS, because, I keep her out of situations where she feels she needs to bite. Some folks fail to do this. Yes some breeds need extra precautions which don't include city state or national laws...LMAO..
I've met more biting chihuahuas, yorkies, and dachshunds than any big dog breeds because folks don't care due to their size...still don't make cause for banning breeds of course.

Just ranting don't mind me ;):)

Ultimatek9 I though everyone knew goldens are the devil and yorkies, chi's are their demons LMAO j/k

I saw the same show and was lmao when I heard that. finally a show that has spoken the truth. A lot of the stuff they say on that show is just retarded imo. I hate that dog groomer and that dog trainer they have on there.

Serious though my sister is a dog groomer and she always says the yorkies , pugs, mini pins, cockers , bite her up ! while the pit bulls, rotties, and other "vicious" breeds are calm and friendly.

I'm a groomer and a trainer and I have definately experienced more aggressive goldens over the years. And labs. It really upsets me because a golden or labrador retriever should not have aggression anywhere in their brains. But I could honestly say that of all the dogs I see on a regular basis, there are more temperament problems in those two breeds than in any other large breed dog.

Buster and I have been attacked twice, both times by goldens. The good news is I can take a golden!
