Put this in ya crack pipe lol

IT HAS all the hallmarks of a drug deal - an anonymous man you will never meet takes your order, another delivers the goods to a carpark, the exchange is fast and frantic to avoid detection.

But this is no drug deal, this is the complex underground system of becoming an owner of a banned American pit bull terrier, the new sought-after black market commodity.

More than four years since it became an offence to sell, acquire or breed pit bulls in NSW, owners have gone underground, thwarting attempts to eradicate the breed.

Once selectively bred to enhance their fighting prowess, with their powerful jaws, muscular bodies and fierce loyalty the pit bull has proved a popular breed world-wide.

But it has become one of the most feared of all dogs with hundreds of attacks attributed to the breed.

It was this ferocious reputation which led former premier Bob Carr to declare pit bulls "killing machines on leashes" and all but ban them in 2005.

Even pit bulls bought before the breeding ban are subject to restrictions and compulsory sterilisation.

The moves had one aim - strategic extinction of the pit bull in NSW.

However, as an attack in Sydney's southwest this week that left a man seriously injured showed, the breed is not going away.

An investigation by The Daily Telegraph found dozens of pit bulls available across Sydney.

Some sellers tried to use the breed's acronym APBT as code, but sold pups and adult dogs openly on the internet.

Sellers ranged from backyard operations making use of free online classifieds, such as Petlink and Aussietraders, to established breeding outfits offering pure-bred pit bulls complete with pedigree papers.

The dogs range in price from a few hundred dollars to more that $2000.

Most ads feature pictures of the pups' parents in vicious poses, bearing their teeth at the camera, some with visible injuries.

Unlike other parts of the world which restrict pit bulls and where the trade in the dogs is largely controlled by criminal gangs for dog fighting, in NSW breeders range from farmers to public servants.

One advertisement The Daily Telegraph located was by a staff member of the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water.

The staffer was selling a two-year-old pit bull, advertised as a stud dog in violation of the legislation.

A spokesperson for the department said it was investigating the employee and did not condone the use of its IT system for activities of this nature.

Another breeder contacted by the Telegraph had numerous dogs and pups for sale, offered pedigree papers and boasted about being in the business for 10 years.

While careful not to reveal his identity, the breeder said he could freight an animal anywhere in Australia and had regular runs throughout Sydney.

"They give you a ring about four hours out of Sydney and will organise a drop-off point," he said.

His dogs, which start at $1500, were advertised as pig hunting dogs but he assured us they make great pets, even in city areas.

The active trade raises questions as to whether local councils are doing enough as the primary enforcement agency.

Currently councils rely on tip-offs or being able to spot the breed when they are registered. To avoid detection most owners simply do not register their dog or register them as unknown crosses.

    eradicate the breed....

I have to say. This is a prime example of what ppl do,ppl that sit on the fence or fall on the side of legistlation that promotes any or stronger criminal laws that concern animals or specificly the APBT.

Here in the USA. When they come knocking on your door to take your animals or you are forced top give them up. You will wish at that point you never had supported anything remotely that would compromise your rights as an animal owner.

That artical is based pretty much around A&S bulldogz the biggest peddler in oz, hopefully others will see it and not deal with the scumbag, he can only draw heat to people that deal with him. He doesn't do anything to better the breed just to line his own pockets.

But doesn't this practice of dealing illegal dogs put the DOGS in danger of being taken away and given a not-so-nice end? I mean, it seems like a risky thing -- and it's the dogs that suffer...

Lives in a non bsl state huh? Well it must have changed in the last 12 months because it was known country wide as the worst state to live in for bsl. As to not liking his stock and going somewhere else well i dont like it (but thats just my opinion) and i dont need to go somewhere else i have my own. Anyone that breeds the amount he does ( im sure you have seen the huge amount of ads on various sites) with untested stock and sells them all for $1800 - $2000 is in it for the money, taking advantage of people that want papered dogs that dont know anyone else to get a good dog through. He will always thrive because most people dont know any better, the ones that do wouldn't go near him.

This type of sensational journalism really pisses me off, and it has nothing to do with some peddler. The bashing of specific breeds is a world wide, well organized, money making machine. This one topic supports tens of thousands IN THE MEDIA, and they will never let it go as long as it sells.
A grassroots resistance is forming to preserve our individual rights, get involved and ask your brothers and sisters to help. Don't let them spread this kind of sh-t around the world with no accountabilty.

Anydody ever challenge this newspaper? make them verify what they print. Was the attack in Sydney actually a APBT or some mutt, are the adds referred to with vicious
poses and large exposed teeth real or are they just spewing sh-t. And the Premier Bob Carr it sounds like he woulnd't know APBT if was hanging on his ass. Make these people at least tell the truth, hold them accountable.

this shit will allways be around, welcome to Australia.
And every state in Australia is a bsl state, it just varies in how bad.

If this is true, then I don't feel sorry for anyone that has an illegal dog (Australia or anywhere). They got that dog KNOWING the dog would be in danger. Someone that deals dogs to people where the dogs are illegal obviously cares nothing for the dogs.

I feel sorry for the DOGS -- put at risk by someone that had to have a fad dog or make money off them.

Dreamer let me just clarify a couple of things, the bsl in australia ranges from state to state, in some states, under the commonwealth dangerous dog act, your are able to own what is deemed a 'prescribed breed' which means you have to register it as a dangerous dog if it is one of the five breeds, it is not against the law to own but the dog has to be desexed, have proper fencing , dangerous dog signs put up , has to be muzzeled in public, and you are not able to sell or breed the banned breeds.
Australia wide has a ban on any imports of these dogs into the country.

however, some states have more leinient laws allowing new registrations if you have come from one of the "better" states, while other states or even individual councils will not allow any new registrations at all.
up until recently there were three states that have minimum laws in place however one of those states have changed their tone, as people trying to save theit threatened working dogs or pets would find a safehaven for them in a better state once their dog was deemed to be threatened.

in regards to my statement that everywhere in australia is bsl, it is true, as the import laws are in place for the entire country.
take into account that there is only one of these dogs of the five banned that has any real presence in Australia and it is the APBT.
so feel sorry for both the dogs and the people as we do happen to live in a truly great country , but laws like this stop us from having the freedom to own what breed we choose.

i hope this clears things up for you and others and sorry i didnt elaborate on my earlier post more.
