Different attitudes here. Which breeder would you rather a dog from, based on two comments posted on this thread:

Breeder 1. "I love a determined and honest bulldog, that is all I would breed."
Breeder 2. "Striving for perfection has never been realistic to me..."

Honestly my bitch would lick a hole through the dry wall, she even licks the sidewalks so hard you can see where she's been! That's just her and her stupid ways. But she doesn't grind her teeth with anguish, angst nor anxiety. That would be wierd, and if she did I'd be inclined not to breed from her. The teeth grinding mentioned by the OP is likely an idiosyncratic behaviour rather than a heritable trait, but I'd err on the side of caution, particulary with a working breed.

EDIT: BUT if the dog was an exceptional worker and passed a HA temperament test I might reconsider my position.

It's way to early to tell if what this dog has is part of a genetic trait. Dogs can easily develop these behaviors due to environmental factors, it most certainly is not always genetic. It can be, yes..but right now I'd say it would be way to early to deam this dog as neurotic. Every dog copes in their own way and we don't know yet why this dog is acting the way that she is. All we know is that is has something to do with being restrained which we all know very well, leash aggression is a pretty common problem with many dogs. It could easily transfer to a chain.

Is it an unusual habit? Sort of..It is her way of taking out frustration or excitement or boredom. Which of those we aren't sure yet. None of those 3 are unusual or unstable, just a product of the dogs environment (not saying the dog is being treated or owned improperly just maybe the right outlet hasn't been found yet).

Unless the OP has both parents and can vouch for a similar behavior in the parents as well and the dog begins showing soft/nervous/ or unusual behavior otherwise I would say we may never know if it is in fact genetic..but that doesn't mean that it isn't completely treatable. Or whether or not it started early on and somehow developed into this behavior. It's always hard to tell these things over a computer so as much information as possible would be good.

It's easy to pick apart someones words aint it? NO being has ever been perfect(w/o getting religious). Good luck finding anything without faults. One mans trash is anothers treasure and that's true til this day.
