Maybe giving her something really yummy to chew when she fires up. Just something little, but that she has to chew. Like a small piece of bread or a biscuit? ANd give a command when you give the food. Keep using negative re-enforcement too (punishment) but then reward with chewy treat when she obeys.

How's she gonna grind her teeth with food in her mouth, eh? :D

this is not odd behaviour. what im making of it is it is not actually grinding the teeth, it is more chattering?? similar to like when they are deflee-ing themselves?? starts to salivate a little also??
i say not odd. ive had a few do it when excited. youll find males doing it when they taste a female on heat also. tasting the air lol...
if this is what it is, you aint going to stop it, its going to do any harm like ware the teeth away or anything like that. its proberly just more annoying from your side.

I wwish it were as simple as that!!! It is not chattering of the teeth, I know what You are saying but that'ss not what she is doing.
have You ever had a signifigant other You were sleeping next to and You notice he or she was ginding thier teeth in thier sleep?
well picture a dog that does that when ever she is on any kind of leash in any given situation!!!!

well if it is actual grinding, you got me :( ,i aint seen grinding, pretty hard to get whats going on without actually seeing the dog. sounds like a nervis thing, whats ya vet say? might pay to get em to take a look, atleast they will be able to see it happening.

Our vet has never come accross this situation either.

Not to be rude in any way but it sounds as if the dog should be a cull.

  10. I got 1 i have had for 5 yrs now and it only shows me a trait that i want to see that she wants to grind her teeth on anything she can ;) .Your animal just might be a high strung dog and there aint nothing wrong with that if you get my drift ?

  11. I dont know about that game the bitch i have would chew way to china if she new she was supposed to be there :D

Yeah her too! shes wide open as far high strung goes!!!
We have a country vet and he thinks she's just way hyper and that's her way of showing anticipation and excitement for a chance to hit the springpole when he came out to see her!! (thank GOD for country vets like him, he never overreacts to kennel accident injuries!!!!)

Youres only wants to do this when it is excited at an opratunity to work. Hers does it everytime a leash or chain is on it. Big Big Differance. She could pass this trait into her offspring. I wouldent want to add one more thing to the geenepool to watch for and have to cull out. Worse if ignored and not culled out, I dont personaly want a yard full of nerotic teeth grinding dogs even if thay are honest bulldogs. JMO

It sounds like an anxious habit to me..in which case I wouldn't recommend any negative corrections which could make her anxiety worse about the situation.
At least for now until the reason and solution can be figured out.

A video would be the most helpful.

So she grinds even when calm, but is always on leash or on her chain when she does it?

Are other dogs present? Does she have a toy or something else to direct her energy towards while on her chain? What's her daily exercise routine? Age? Spayed?
    DA? Any other odd behaviors?

WAT?????? Any dog that shows a determination so severe would be a keeper in my yard and a dog can still have a hard mouth with grinded teeth.
Couldn't win any conf shows tho.:p

OP: Not sure how to help the situation but interested in others solutions cuz I had a bitch that would chew any kind of concrete when she was frustrated.
It seems to be just females with chewing and biting problems on foreign objects.:D

Youre missing the point the dog dont just do it when determend to get at another dog. It does it constantly everytime a leash or chain is attached to it. I would cull the dog. I dont want to pass on a nerotic trait that can ruin harware. I love a determand honest bulldog that is all i would breed but I guess Im a lil more selective than youreself. There are plenty of honest bulldogs to breed without this problem.

To each his own. Striving for perfection has never been realistic to me but that's just my ways. That bitch I had that chewed bricks, loose gravel and licked sidewalks was the best dog I've had but I've only had 9 dogs total.
    Not sure of the odds

EDIT: and she licked through the dry wall in my house. She must have ate it or pushed it in too cuz it was a cleared out hole. Caught her in the act one day. She was nuts but I miss the $hit outta her. Good dog!
