I have noticed alot of well muscled dogs on this website, and would love to add Kudos to all of you who have such impressive speciments of this breed. However, I am curious...

I have a 15 month old Black boy that I am currently working with Weight Pull in. I cant seem to condition this boy correctly, anyone wanna offer some tips as far as the correct way to condition. Mind you, he is already pulling 200lbs. ( I know, that is nothing compared to what he could pull).

I appreciate any tips and advice anyone may have to offer.

If you look at my pictures he is my black boy. He has some Bordeaux blood in his lines. I know he can do it, he has all the drive in the world, but I just know...im doing something wrong with his training, and I dont want to ruin him. I just want some experienced opinion on this. My other male, Ruger, will run with dead weight. He conditions himself. Though right now he is out of commission due to snake bite.

He looks good to me. A little on the heavy side. What are you feeding if I may ask?

For awhile I had him on Diamond, but recently moved to Black Gold. He should have more muscle thent his shouldnt he? I didnt breed him, I bought him, but his parents were much nicer dogs then he has turned out to be so far. Im really thinking im just not going about it correctly.

Diamond kept my dogs Heavy. Different dogs bodies react to feed differently. But right now I am on Canidae Lamb and Rice. It keeps th weight down for Him. But I would change feed, continue exercising

Hard to tell his true form from those pics. What exactly is it that you think he is lacking in? Muscle tone and structure? Over all strength? Is he lanky and tall? At 15 mths he has not reached his peak size or maturity, maybe you should continue to exercise him and just give it some time.

!5 moths still a pup really, my prefered exercise to get a dog fit and lean is some kind of sprinting flat then a gentle jog then sprint like interval training.

yeah, as stated-he is still young. give him a bit more time and he should tone up. just remember to keep the workouts light for a few more months, then gradually increase load.

Alright. I think I get what everyone is saying, and I have no idea why I didnt already thinnk of this. I have had 14 years of dedication in the breed, but Biggs is really my first GAME dog. I have others that I do competition with, but he is different. His drive is soo much stronger, he is a hecka lot more stubborn and he is def. growing differently. I love the GAME DOGS! Anyway, Thank you everyone for your advice. Ill be posting pics of him as he gets more conditioned.

    Thanks a ton to everyone!

Flirt, Spring, Bike, Swim, WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK till ya cant walk no damn more. Id keep the firting down to 10 min. 2 times per workout with breakes inbetween because of his age. He looks good to me for a 15 month pup. Same goes for the Bikeing.

OK. I think I get it. I will def try the swimming for sure. I have a pond behind my house that my other dogs cannot seem to avoid.

I do have one other question, however. I have been in the APBT for nearly 15 years now, 14 strong. I have researched bloodline after bloodline, and after alot of thought, I have thought to start my own bloodline of APBTs. Granted, this takes alot of time and I am prepared for this. The only problem standing in my way is that one of my most asked about males is CKC. This is only because his breeder never sent me paperwork and decided to dissapear off the earth with a hefty tag in their pocket.

So, needless to say, I registered him through CKC as well as all my other dogs being as I've heard about them through other breeders. I have always registered under UKC (when I had Staffordshires too) and ADBA (which I do still have one). People are a bit shy of the CKC and I can get why. However, I have become a club member and have recently started my own club in Georgia so that fellow CKC members can participate in CKC sanctioned events. This includes Weight Pulling, Shutzhund and Agility. It has worked well for me, and I am pleased. I am currently undergoing my own selective breeding and producing some awesome working dogs. Yet, im not spoiling it with adding in the "designer" lines.

Basically, Im putting every effort into it. What are ya'lls thoughts on this?

Well you arnt going to get working dogs down from ukc stuff (In most cases) And people arnt going to strop being skeptical of the CKC.

I love weight pull and go to as many events as I can, however, I wouldn't waste my money at any CKC event, no offense. They are just not a reputable registry and will register anything. There are enough established lines in this breed that I do not see a reason to create a new one, especially CKC only registered lines. If you really, really, want to start breeding [one day] I highly suggest getting some good dogs, with known heritage, ADBA or UKC registered, and start there.

About your dog, he looks great to me...I do mostly drag weight with my WP dogs and it keeps them in great shape. I do add a little of everything in, but a lot of drag weight.
