Has anyone on here showed your dogs with this certification from the ADBA? My dog is a spayed female. And I would really love to show her, but no papers. Do most shows have classes you can enter with LPP status, or is it on a show-by-show basis?

 

I have a few LPP dogs but i really don't show them. You can only show in the fun classes at the ADBA shows. There is always like 40 dogs in each class so i always just save the money and put it towards the show dogs.
The fun classes where they have like best red nose or judges choice, stuff like that you can show in.

 

Do all shows have fun classes? I want to get into dog showing sometime, but don't have a papered dog, and am really just trying to get my feet wet. I have a well motivated dog and I just want to practice with her untill I find another good dog, but with papers.

 

It's not necessary to LP your dog for ADBA. You can't WP them anyway [yet] and you can enter fun classes without papers.

To answer your question, every show I've been to has had fun classes.

You must have an intact dog with full ADBA papers to Weight Pull. They may let LPP dogs weight pull at a later date but not yet.

 

This might be a dumb question but why do the dogs have to be intact to be able to participate in weight pulling?

They can be spayed/neutered to weight pull, but they have to have full ADBA registration. Hopefully they will change that and allow LP'd dogs to participate in the future.

 

It was my understanding that they had to be intact, I will have to go back and look at the rule book, thanks Crystal621

 

I think it used to be that way and then they made changes to allow altered ADBA reg dogs to pull, not sure how recently though.

40lbsred: Are there any ADBA clubs near you? Sometimes they'll have fun shows...our club here does them monthly.

 

Ok I found this on the ADBA website and this new. It must have been last year because we had looked into the rules for a few of our dogs and only intact dogs could pull at that time. But I think any dogs with papers or LPP should be able to pull, JMO

Please note - Only ADBA registered dogs, both intact or spayed or neutered, are allowed to enter in an ADBSI Sanctioned Event. (This does not include LPP dogs.)​

 

I had asked this question from someone else before. . .but now I am reading that and it's confusing.

If my dog is papered through the adba, but has been spayed. Can I show her in fun classes and weight pull her?

Or- do I have to get the LLP even though I have her papers?

 

Yes, you can show her in fun classes and weight pull since she is ADBA registered.
