    THE GERMAN JAGDTERRIER

Copied from the 1962 German Jagdterrier Stud Book

... For over 40 years the German Jagdterriers has been developed in Germany exclusively for hunting. Many other things have entered into this breeding to make the Jagdterrier a valuable asset to anyone's household. The Jagd had been developed through the years as a small hardy fearless dog. A selective breeding program has been followed, using only proven Field Champions as breeding stock and by keeping, at the most, 6 puppies per litter. Thus eliminating all weaklings and nourishing to the full extent to strong. In breeding the Jagds proven in field work it was also required that they pass conformation test. Through going back to the Old Foxterrier and the Black and Tan Wire Terrier and through endless effort the breeders in Europe developed the German Jagdterrier - Jagd meaning to hunt in German and Terrier to name his type, one meaning to hunt under-ground. Jagd is pronounced Yak, long a.

Bred for reasons of hunting, his abilities would amaze anyone; the Jagdterrier if trained may be hunted on all marauding game, fox, squirrel, fowl and ducks. He will retrieve anything he can carry. His manner of hunting fowl is by flushing and retrieving. Marauding game represents an excellent chance for seek and kill. He has been used successfully on Wild Boar; the Jagd maneuvers, from any opportune angle, to the side of the Boar and grabs the ear, hanging on and in this manner slowing and hindering the boar. He has been used in bloodhound work tracking wounded game, given the scent 36 hours after the track was made. He will retrieve from land or water.

The Jagdterrier is an intelligent canine, thus he is active and outgoing. He is ever watchful and an excellent and affectionate companion for children. Being small he is easy to keep in the home and travels well in a car.

The German Jagdterrier is, in appearance, tense, determined and fearless. He serves in hunting as a fighting dog under and above ground, as a trailing and flushing dog above ground and in water. Also, he is a "blood" hound and retriever of small game. His height permits keeping in the city and as a companion in automobiles. He needs a lot of activity. He is unmindful of injuries obtained from counter-attack of marauding game. He is a hardy dog and mistrusts strangers.
    Spirit of a Hound.

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY : After the first World War a group of active hunters separated from the numerically strong Fox-Terrier Club. It was their aim to create a breed, the sole purpose of which would be hunting performance. The experienced hunters and cynologists Rudolf Frieß, Walter Zangenberg and Carl‑Erich Grünewald decided to select a black and tan hunting dog in particular suitable for the hunt under the ground. A coincidence came in support of their efforts. A zoo director, Lutz Heck / Hagenberg presented Walter Zangenberg with four black and tan terriers which were said to come from pure-bred Fox-Terrier lines. These dogs became the foundation stock of the German Hunting Terrier. At the time Dr Herbert Lackner joined the founders. After many years of intensive breeding efforts, and through skilful crossings with the Old English Wirehaired Terrier as well as with the Welsh Terrier, they succeeded to fix the appearance of their breed. At the same time they put great emphasis on breeding a multitalented, well trainable, hard, tongue‑giving and water‑happy dog with an explicit hunting instinct. The German Hunting Terrier Club (Deutscher Jagdterrier-Club e.V.) was founded in 1926. As ever, the breeders continued to value most carefully their breed for its usefulness as a hunting dog, its steadiness of character, its courage and drive.
GENERAL APPEARANCE : A smallish, generally black and tan, compact, well proportioned working hunting dog.
height at the withers : Circa 55 - 60 % of the height at the withers.
BEHAVIOUR / CHARACTER : Courageous and hard, takes pleasure in work, enduring, vital, full of temperament, reliable, sociable and trainable, neither shy nor aggressive.

Please be careful masta. I'm sure the experience you're heading on can be a joyful & exciting one, but ALL terrier breeds can have DA, so the Jagd & the Patt could be just as willing to fight as the APBT. So please have more than one breakstick handy. And please be mindful of your personal safety b/c the Jagd & Patt were NOT bred for human bite inhibition like the APBT was & if your other terriers get into a scrap (which is likely) you may be bitten by the Jadg or Patt if you try to break them up. So please be careful!

    That being said, good luck!

    The Patterdale Terrier

The Patterdale Terrier is a tough, active terrier and should give a compact, well balanced image. Height should be between 10" to 13" measured at the shoulders. Weight should be proportionate, presenting neither a "weedy" or "clunky" image.

Scars received while working will not be penalized and should be considered a badge of honor. In conformation evaluation, with all things being equal "...a terrier with working scars should be given precedence over a terrier with none.

you see how they honor scars on a working patt, but scars on a pitbull in our society is a badge of cruelty not honor, and you will be penalized.

It depends on which kennel club you show through. CKC will penalize for scars & I think UKC does too, but I don't think ADBA or AADR do.

    Groaners Pup

Jagdterriers are AWESOME incredibly HARD AS NAILS terriers if you get the right sort, same with Patterdales.
Good luck with the pups, they should tear up the woods in no time. APBT + Patt + Jagd = death to everything with hair and 4 legs!:)

I just dont get ya masta of game lol...

    So now its a jagd,patty and a pitty - your "gang" lol:eek:

To hunt foxes / rabbits/ goats and boars (no sows hey lol) ??

Man, if YOUR goal is to successfully hunt as you say, then choosing three pups of seperate breeds is NOT the way to go about it.. YOU would have read up on the correct ways of creating a hunting pack. ;)

Some how i'm thinking you used the right word "GANG" and not "pack" - I see NEWS HEADLINES and i dont think its going to involve any hunting wabbits.. lol:eek:

    :D

anybody in aus hunted with this line?

    http://www.game-dog.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32874

remember how i told zarna im interested in the patterdale terrier.

and on the australia pitbull forum i said i was looking for a jagd terrier. it was all planned long time ago. so its not just now.

I'm not trying create the "correct" hunting pack, because if i was, i wouldnt use a pure apbt n a hunt, and i would be using grey hound bull arab and pointers, but im just working the legal way the apbt and the other 2 breeds i want to own. just work my dogs, make them hunt, u know, not trying be a successful hunter, just wanna enjoy hunting with my future dogs, its my dream to own a working patt and a jagd and an apbt. and i wanna watch the three hunting together, i believe the three can do it all, maybe not be the best at it as a pack, but can finish the job at the end.

i believe hunting is the better alternative , since the pit is illegal, im not taking weight pull, im taking hunting, cos i think dogs will love it more.

with the HEADLINE that QWERT mentioned LOL,come on man you are exaggerating lol, i will be using the state forest , what news headline man lol,i wont be hunting round kids, its state forest, worse could happen is me getting lost, so i have to learn how to use navigation tools, and at my place, i dont have kids at my place , i dont live with a family. i live with friends, and all dogs will be on a chain set up, one similar to what marty posted.

its not limited to these only, this list can be edited anytime.

Masta sometimes I think you say some crazy shit but in the end it is your life.

If their is no danger to anyone else or anyone else's dogs then go for it. You may end up with a big ass dog fight so be prepared and don't be surprised if it happens. Just keep it safe. You only live once.

Yeah you are right, you did "Write" on a forum you wanted a patty, just like you wrote you were getting a son of Ca Jacks Silverback.. dont mean anythin to me mate..

I got no problem what you do mate - but you may want to look into state laws in regards to hunting in State forest, especially with dogs;) but i'm sure you are aware of all that LOL

I know you live with "Friends" didnt you refer to them as your "gang" once also.. LOL
You dont sound and i Know you arent "Experienced" with dogs full stop, let alone the sorts of breeds you want to own on chain setups similiar to what marty poseted.. (Wanna be ALOT better than the chain setup you used previously thats for sure)
So allin all what can anyone say, you do what you do - you Just go about it allthe wrong way..

As for hunting, LOL you gonna get yourself in all sorts of trouble bud, you are thinkin navigation gonna be an issue LOL, start thinkin brown snakes, tiger snakes, dehydrated dogs, on the field patch ups and put downs, mallee bulls chargin ya, boars chargin ya, and all the other glorious fun involved with huntin your dogs..:D

I'd stick to basketball if i were you ;)
