I have a 9 month old female that has had loose stool since I got her at 8 weeks old(was told she was wormed)......I have taken her to vet about this 4 times and they have tested her stool and only found elevated numbers of bad bacteria and no worms and gave me some antibiotics for it but it still hasn't stopped and now there seems to be blood in the stool....I have tried multiple brands of food and nothing seems to help...what could be causing this?

Im also having a hell of a time putting weight on her...she is eating like a horse and is drinking lots of water......seems to be shedding a little excessive compared to my other dogs but other wise seems healthy and active.....im at a loss as to what to do next....I mean I dont mind spending money at the vet but after 4 visits and multiple recommendations to try their overpriced special vet food witch cost 75 dollars a bag...... and no improvement ....im starting to think Im getting hosed......seems to have the classic signs of worms but the vet assures me that that is not the case

  5. you tried treating the dog for coccidia? thats the only time my pups have ever had the runs.

When I first got my dog I had the same problem. I took him to the vet and they just told me he had a sensitive stomach and have me food called "prescription diet W/D" that actually helped out a lot... I think it was just a high fiber blend to harden up his stool.

I agree with crimsonghost if you have been to the vet 4 times and they cant tell you anything then hyou might want to consider going to a new one. Coccidia is something that I hope you dog dogs not have are there any other pets around? And do you allow your dog to play with other dogs or go to dog parks? Or, anywhere strange dogs play that could be your problem. You might need to keep your dog iosolated until you find out whats up. Or unotil his immune system builds up. DO you have ped on the dog? Just Curious

You could try adding a tablespoon or two of canned pumpkin in his food to see if that helps also. The fiber tends to absorb some of the moisture.

There are many tests for different bacterial infections, and they can in fact lay dormant for a little while and flair up occasionally and then calm down again. I would ask for a Giardia test specifically, it's a fairly common problem but for some reason vets don't routinely check for it. It causes all the problems you have listed above.

I have been to 2 different vets and both said its probably just a sensitive stomach yet I have tried their food and did the whole rice and beef deal and nothing seems to be helping...and all the foods I have tried have been high quality foods.I have three other dogs that are perfectly healthy and are in close proximity of the bitch im having trouble with....the dog with the problem isnt a bulldog.....she is a mastiff if that matters.I just find it hard to believe its a just a sensitive stomach when there is blood in ever stool now....I made an appointment at a different vet and hopfully they have more luck......Ive aready spent like $500 and I we are no better off then when we started

Here's a recipe for Satin Balls. Be careful, they will put weight on your dog fast:

    Satin Balls Full Recipe
10 lbs cheap hamburger (high fat %)
1 large box Total cereal (about 12 cups cereal)
1 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 15 cups oats)
    10 raw eggs
    1 15oz jar wheat germ
    10 packages Knox unflavored gelatin
1 and 1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 and 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses
    Pinch of salt

Hey, Im going through the exact same thing. Got the pup at 4mnts(now nine months), nothing but loose stools and diarea from the start. Vets trips over and over to be told nothing is wrong...Ive tried every food in my area and surprising as it is evo has been the best for her. I guess with the amount that is said to be feed to her its not alot in her stomic at one time. I think Im going to have some of the abouve test ran...good luck with it..

My dog had the same exact thing besides the blood, the VET tried to get me to buy their "Diet" food Science Diet which had horrible ingredients such as corn, whey and brewers rice. I actually read somewhere that some terriers have a sensitivity to rice or brown rice. I was feeding Pluto Solid Gold which is really expensive but his stomach did not agree with the rice in it. I switched to Blue Buffalo Wilderness which has an awesome protein content and it uses potatoes instead of rise and he is doing way better. Pluto gets loose stools if he eats his poop and if he doesnt rest for at least a full hour after feeding. My suggestion would be to go to a different vet like everyone is saying, but I would also look into a food that does not have rice and also keep the dog still while it is digesting his meal until you walk it. If your dog eats his poop he will def get the looseness from it.

Could your water be affecting her?

A lot of bacterial infections start in the water, especially if you use hose water to fill up their bowls ect. If you've changed food often and it hasn't helped, you can pretty much bet it isn't a food problem. If you've never tried a grain free food, I would suggest that. Canidae, and Taste of the Wild have grain free foods. The vets do not test for specific bacterial infections unless you ask for it, so make sure you ask for it and get your money's worth.

In the case that it is a bacterial problem, I would recommend keeping the dog away from the others until you know what it is. A lot of bacterial infections are easily transmitted and much harder to get rid of when they are passed around from dog to dog repeatedly. Good luck!

My oldman has a English Mastiff female , Madison . she was feed wet kibble and kept still after meals, cause i guess mastiffs their stomachs can actually twist in side them while playing with a full stomach , could be wives tail but, we did it anyway till she was 1.5-2 yrs old. it was recomended by the breeder, and the oldmans wife she was a vet, But we never had any problems with her either.

try and Put her on those big "cauligan jugs" of bottled water for a week or two see what happens.?

I'd do that test as well, just to be sure if it hasn't been done already

Try CA. Naturalhttp://www.naturapet.com/brands/california-natural.aspIf that feed does not do the trick then I would feed that dog a raw diet.
