3 days ago my 48lb female APBT and I were rushed by a god knows how large Rotti, his chain allowed him to make it almost across the center line of the street. My mistake was I never saw this dog before in my life nor did I see him this day. Bailey and I crossed the street in time but I didn't know how long is chain was as he never slowed down, I was between Bailey and the Rotti with my hand on my pistol, thus I was not worried as the gun shots don't bother Bailey. We returned home unscathed, I put Bailey in the house and walked back to the dogs home and had a talk with the owner we agreed the chain was way to long, on their behalf they were in the process of moving in and put the dog on the chain that had been used at their previous residence, innocent mistake. The dog was very friendly when I walked into his yard then rang the door bell. Seemed like a different dog. We still walk that block and the rotti is fine with that now.

ive had things like this happen to me also at times. the first few times i must of look like an idiot picking up my bulldog lol, but people dont understand, i picked mine up to save theirs lol.
after this i approached the local dog catcher aboput the problem and asked how i would go legaly, he assured me that so long as i was within the law, that is i had mine on a lead and the other was at large that i would be completely in the right. I GOT THIS ON PAPER AND SIGNED, also stating the problems i was having with stray/loose dogs in the area.
i respect animals, but i have to admit that i have kicked the shit out of a few. i aint proad of the fact but that was better in my eyes than let'n my lil bulldog get a hold and going through the drama of gett'n him off.
i could go on, but i will leave it there.
    D'S.

Yep, this happens quite a bit in the summer time here in Michigan. Lots of jack-offs who can't contain their dogs. I could give two Sh*&Ts if the dog is a 100 pound rott or a 10 pound beagle, dogs need to be on leash or contained.

Everytime this has happened, except for 1 time, the other dogs come up to us, get some barks/growls, and run away.

The exception is when a 150 pound dane and a 100 black lab decided to rush us. It happened quick enough, that my dogs had a hold of the dane by the neck and rear leg in a matter of seconds. (The dogs rushed us, while I was walking in the middle of the ROAD) Anyhow, the owners came out and the dogs ran back. I called the cops and they both recieved tickets. (and about 110 stiches from what the cop said)

I would not and never will put a muzzle on my dog. They would have gotten messed up, if they could not defend themselves. I know they can 'take a lot', but they don't deserve that.

Luckily in my vicinity there are mongrels . Somehow they got a sense of seeing danger so they do not come that close to my pits.

only once it happened and needless to say thay mongrel died. The owner was there and he had nothing to say. if he were to report to cops they would have laughed him off. "they got more important things to do, then worrying about dead dogs", so the cops say.

I don't know... my dogs are pretty rugged physically and mentally. I was actually walking Tank and some guy with a HUGE mutt had his leash snap and he came right at Tank. Thank DOG Tank was muzzled as it was right in front of the cop shop and Tank would have seriously injured that dog, or worse, without a second thought. With the muzzle though, the other dog gave up within seconds and ran back to his owner, and Tank, the dummy that he is, thought it was the coolest thing ever. In his mind he whipped that dogs but and sent him running and the couple little punctures he had just added to the excitement. He couldn't have been happier. What was a two second scuffle, could have been a headline and a ban in the making as they just itch around here for ANOTHER incident as there's been way to many for my liking. My dogs not going to be cause for BSL, even if they have to take a few for the team. ;)

well that might be the case in the state u live in but here in PA the dogs laws are much different, all dogs must be restrained properly and if something happens because they were not restrained then its that owners fault and not urs, trust me i know because the cops did show up at the incident and thats exactly what was told to me by the cop

I have had many dogs run at my dogs when I lived in the city. Remember it is your job to protect your dog at all times! That means protecting them from killing or hurting another dog. I have kicked my share of dogs and the owners get pissed. I just tell them I saved their dogs life:rolleyes:. Dog mace is good to carry as well. I hate when I would go to the park and some lab would come in charging my dogs. The owner would be yelling "he's friendly". So gives your dog the right to charge me? Sorry, I don't care how nice the dog seems I mace them anyway. There is a leash law for a reason!!! They might get upset but I just say I'm calling the cops and they leave, they know they were in the wrong.

I only suggest to my clients to walk there dogs in muzzle's if the dogs are really aggressive and lunge after other dogs. After all do you really want the old ladies poodle to end up lunch? There is a difference in a dog defending it's self and wanting to kill another dog.
JMO but I would kick another dog in a heart beat if it comes after us.

I had some gangster punk "sic" his APBT on my dog before. That was the only time I let my dog handle business. He was not so tough after my APBT got done with his AMbully:D

Man I walk Helena around here all the time and I see people with their dogs off leash, and they are walking down the road! I always make sure to yell out "Leash laws! My dogs on a leash, yours should be too!" Do you people just not care about the safety of their pets. Ofcourse they are thinking "well that pit bull should be on a leash" Well so should every other damn dog! I'm not going to let Helena take her chances in a dog fight, she's never been in one other than a little snarl at another dog but it was finished when I yelled out after 2 seconds. I don't have the money to pay the vet bills if my dog got hurt. And most likely the owner wouldn't come forward or would sue me as some have said.

And as far as dogs running in the street... sometimes you really can't do anything about it if a dog or cat or any other animal runs out in front of you. I will be the first to admit I will slam on my breaks to avoid hitting a dog, or whatever animal. I'm too soft when it comes to hitting an animal with my car. Some just plow over them like they are nothing. We had a little dead yorkie outside my complex, was obviously hit and made it off the road.. poor thing.. laid there dead for a while and the apartment maintenence never picked it up. :(

For anyone in deer country... deer cause a lot of accidents out on a country road.

I guess we're lucky. As some of you already know, I had a problem w/ this last summer. The sheriff told me that if I felt I was in danger to shoot the dog. They then said don't let the owner move it's body until they got there (to prove it was outside of it's yard) or at the very least take pics of it outside of the yard. I was like "right on!" So now we carry a pistol while we walk. For those who don't want to go the deadly route I have found a pin from a large size welded wire kennel makes a great "wop stick" too. Not too heavy or carry to swing, long enough to pop the dog before it get to you & it hurts like hell!!

I had my JC outside and a loose dog approached. JC placed himself in front of me and lunged. I picked up JC and got myself positioned to where I was able to use my legs to keep the dog away. Yes, even though JC is a chihuahua, they can be tough. :)

I too live in Pa and I'll be damned if I get bitten by someones cur while tring to seperate my dog and another dog because some a$$hole couldn't abide by the leash law and properly restrain their animal (and because I live in pa where a breakstick could possibly get me a charge, I don't nor would I carry one with me) If that senero ever played out while I was walking one of my hounds (lucky for me, this has only happened to me once in 13 years of owning bulldogs.), someones dog may very well end up dead. I would not try to intervien at all, nor would I release the leash (that way I have my dog properly leashed and here in Pa it will most definitly be the unleashed dogs owner getting fined as well as any vet bill if needed), I know my dogs well and they will be just fine taking care of themselves. I would hope the other dog just reconizes before he comes inside the leash range, he can't win and if not then he gets his a$$ handed to him....... :D

From my understanding of what AC has told me that here in Michigan there is a state wide leash law. This means even if your dog is in your front yard you must still have it leashed. Only in a fenced in area is where you dog can roam without being tethered.

I found this out from my neighbor the cop and AC after my daughter let one of the hounds out my accident and it ran across the street and tried to snatch up the neighbors Pomeranian. I was at work and did not see it but I was on the phone quite a bit the rest of that afternoon. The AC officer said that even though their dog was in their yard it was not in the fenced in portion so we were both guilty of breaking the leash law and it was both our faults. My daughter in a panic ran next door to talk to the cop and he said the same thing. He asked my daughter if their dog was on a leash, she said no and he said "F them". Hes not a bad guy for a cop.

Also in Michigan you have a right to protect your animal if it is being attacked. Your animal also has a right to protect itself if properly contained. That means if you are walking your dog and it is leashed then that dog has full right to protect itself from any form of animal attack. So this spring and summer I have no worries. I will carry my parting stick, my cell phone and my pistol. On of those 3 things will fix any problem I will have. I look forward to getting my dogs in shape and getting rid of some of their fat and mine. If the dogs get to do a little "leash hunting" in the process, all the better.

    Ferk out
