Assault Weapons Ban

Here is my question, as I've seen some interesting retoric on this thread. Does anyone here believe that a private citizen should be able to own ANY weapon system? Flamethrowers? Surface to air missile systems? Handheld anti-tank weapons?

I'd argue that MOST (95%at least) rational people would argue that there should be some legal limits on the ownership of weapons. So, having established that, what should those limits be?

And I'll start off with, people SHOULD be allowed to own some firearms, so I'll say the limit should be at full auto with large clips. I know, guns don't kill people, but full auto with large clips sure do make it a hell of a lot easier.

 

I own my grandmothers 22 cal hand gun and if you think you can take it? try and see what happens :rolleyes:

Why should there be restrictions regarding automatic weapons,they're rarely ever used in a crime.Probaly more nickle plated Jennings .22s being held sideways robbed more 7-11s than machineguns ever did.And if there was ever a gun no one should own that's it I don't think people should own nuclear warheads[chance of accident]but any hand held rifle,just shooting regular bullets should be ok.There's enough full auto weapons that you'd be suprised but who's being killed with them.This guy just a few miles down the road from me had them coming out his butt www.joplinglobe.com/local/local_story_051010739.html -He never killed no one though.If someone has common sense they can own any kind of firearm and do no harm.If they're stupid,they might kill someone with any kind of firearm.

 

But,since the real deal costs out the butt,I see no harm in owning a semi auto with a 30 round magazine.

Arms is a short term for armament. Armament is the standard issue weaponry for the military.

I take this to mean whatever standard issue weapons foot soldiers are equipped with in war, is also what we private citizens should be allowed.

 

I asked a very clear question. So I have at least ONE straightforward answer to the question.

And hand held full auto rifle is fine by at least one person.

How About grenade launchers? Or rocket propelled grenades?

Or what I think would be the ultimate in home protection, the automatic shotgun? What about hand held surface to air missiles? How about hand held anti tank weapons?

 

Yes there should be some restrictions, and the restrictions that have been in place for many years are fine by me. Full auto firearms have been heavily regulated for decades, yet for some reason we still have gang bangers running around emptying 30 rounds into each other out of their full auto Mac 10. Ya know why? CRIMINALS HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE LAW.

So on that note, what kind of an effect would an assault weapons ban have on crime?

Is one of these firearms more dangerous than the other? I can tell you, as the owner of these guns, they are nearly identical in their ability to perform a specific task...yet our government would have you believe one is more dangerous than the other. I can tell you point blank...that is not the case:

YES!!! if the have all the proper permits than YES! you see what every on does not under stand the joe blow can NOT have full auto anything. They must have a class 3 lic. and full auto guns are very pricey ak starts at about 7,500.00$ . And if yu are class 3 you must have all those guns locked in a spec Safe and keep perfect records on them. Also if you are class 3 the gov can kick in your door any time they want and check to make sure all is in order. If one thing is out of place your ass goes to jail. thats what no one seems to get you can not go in a gun shop and buy a full auto gun. But the media makes it seem like you can pick one up at wallmart. I feel that if you have gone threw the hoops and are in the law YES you should be able to have a friggin tank if you want one.

The catch: They are the exact same gun. One just happens to have the "evil" furniture on it and the other is stock. This is how ridiculous the AWB was and would be.

I agree if someone wants to jump through the hoops it takes,it shouldn't have restrictions.It is outlandish to have to pay what it takes to get one though.As far as the gangbangers and their Mac 10s,The government should deal with them with their automatic weapons.The national guard and the military should roll down the street and wipe them out.I'm for the freedom to own the firearm of your choice and for a severe penalty for misusing it.

ask australia, united kingdom, and canada what a ban has done for their crime rate? home invasion is a HUGE problem. its a proven fact...when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns..... i have had a CCW permit for years, and take full advantage of it. working on the road, a fella feels alot better w/ a Glock in his suitcase

i agreed about the criminal part w/ the mac10s, but i PERSONLY think we ALL should have a Thompson and a BAR! jmo, but i doubt im wrong! BTW, mac 10s are JUNK! nothing but a criminals firearm...wanna nice SMG, buy a Thompson, MP5, or an Uzi. i dont care what anyone says, the israelis know how to make a firearm. id LOVE a Galil!
