Do you think that if in the next few years that a new "bad" dog would come to light? Maybe if that would happen we would have a chance to redeem our dogs and bring back their good names? It would be a shame to have another breed be persecuted and treated like we have but it has always been that way right? Every couple of years a new "bad" dog would appear?

What happened is complex. First, the breed became popular and at the same time people became much less savvy about animals in general and dogs in particular. I think its important to note that you can find photographic evidence of these dogs being kept as family pets in the 1800's. So there never was a time when only "dogmen" were keeping them. However, back in the day only dogmen were breeding them on any kind of scale and once they got popular and novices starting breeding and crossing and selecting for HA dogs............

And those HA dogs were being owned by at risk owners (who then bred them) often in very crowded areas the chances of trouble increased.

Then add in misidentification by the media and so on and that my take on how it happened.

There is so much bad breeding going on that a lot of people have never seen a real deal pitbull.

People changed. The general public became more gullible, willing to believe whatever they're told. We were told that these dogs were horrible and some people believed it. Then peddlers took advantaged of it, sweet talked people and put out horrible dogs.

I belive the breed was better because they had natural dogs in the events back then
nowa days people will do any thing to make a dog more than what it is

dogmen developed the game dog and showed us what an absolute fearless warrior yet gental well mannered companion he could be. would be dogmen destroyed what once was. this brings the conclusion that they can never again be what they once were in the sence of being a game dog. lol...unless you wanna take your chances and end in a cage yourself.

so in keeping in the true sence of the word (gamedogs), they were better off back then, but that is not to say that a resonsible owner can't have, and retain a truely remarkable animal at this time.

This is JMO because I sure shit wasn't even a thought back then. I'm only 23. But I would say hell yeah the breed was in a better place then, then it is now and amongst all the reasons listed. I think the main reason is the FUCKING MEDIA! How many people watch the news and read the paper in the morning??? and those that don't know any better are going to believe everything they see on the news or read in a paper. It's hard to open someone's mind to something after it's been slammed shut. If you ask me media is our breeds biggest problem. They created that fear people have of our dogs. In a sense they created this "monster". Again JMO The media and Unfit owners. but if you take away the media IMO our breed would look no worse then any other breed. It's like playing a football game it's hard to win if the reff is in the other teams pocket. Now your playing the other team and the reff. That’s that we are doing. Up hill with the wind in our face.

The media is of course responsible. And with the upgrades of technology... and the fear mongering put out.... how often do you see anything positive on the news? They have some 2 minute clip of something warm and fuzzy right before it's over. The beginning is rocked with... the latest homicides, dog attacks, car wrecks, bodies found, missing children... it goes on and on. And people just gather round to watch. I rarely watch the news unless I see something is going to be on that is interesting. The world news is better than the local. The best part there is to me is the weather.

So the next question is... did PETA and HSUS fabricate stories of bait dogs, gunpowder, red meat, rubbing coke on the dogs noses, anything that would make them "crazy" and seem cruel... and the whole "training" the dog to fight.

And can I get a hell yeah on... The US has bigger things to worry about than dog attacks and banning breeds?

I don't think they did. I think there was some fake ass wanna be thug dog fighters that started this shit. Ignorent mo fo that didn't know shit. Same with the imfamous "jaw locking" story. However i think PETA and HSUS made sure they didn there part in blowing it up and making it public.
