If a sort of catch dog competition could be conducted legally for a single dog in the legal form of a boar hunt and where a dog could EARN a champion and grand champion title and the owner win money when such titles were earned would there be any interest from yall fine folks? A few people are talking about putting something like this together but would like some input from all sides. Pro con, game dog, staffy people, blue dog people, pet people, different and or cross breed people all input is welcomed and appreciated.

I don't see how it would be any different from a field trial/legal hunt. Go for it

As long as its not similar to the hog dog comps that are getting banned.

If it was more like a hunting trial/competition in an open area without the hogs being contained it would go over better. The problem is when the public see's the dogs hit a hog and then the hog starts screaming, thats when the hearts start bleeding. If you could have the actual catch and killl done in private it would go over better.

How would the dogs get titled?? amount of hogs caught? weight of hogs?

Wont bay dogs be needed?? or will the hunt be more of a set up??

  4. too many 'animal lovers' of today, like jeeperino said heart starts bleeding, but id be interested in that,
there'd have to be some major changes and differences i know me being native, i hunt anytime of the year and stuff, but all my game is consumed
im not sure about states but if your eating the hog or game there is no problem with a dog raking a hog or any other animal,
but with the breeds of dogs i wouldn out anyone or any dog all dogs and the owenrs have the chance to compete, i own a blue dog she is 48 pounds with great hunting skills but there is alot of legal areas you'd have to follow and read, my only concern would be the 'what if' a handler gains the loss of his animal while in the field.

Those things still happen out here in South GA and north FL as far as I know. I've never been but my father in law has and has many trophies to show for it. I really wanna start at least one of my dogs. I enjoy hunting and it would be a great workout and bonding experience for owner and dog i think. And being able to title a dog, shhht , i'd love that. Hogs are open game all year long with no limit on how many you harvest so I can't see how it would be a problem from a legal standpoint. And as far as so called 'animal lovers and activists' go, I think they need to be outright ignored for some things. If one of those people had a rat in their house they would set a trap and KILL it. Same thing for feral hogs all over the country, they are pests and are capable of breeding at a rapid rate. They destroy crops yards and can be very dangerous. Red Cocaine, I say bring it on. I don't know the first thing about hog hunting with catch dogs, but I'm willing to learn. And what's even better is that both my dogs come from working catch dogs. I've seen the dam of my female catch on video and it is something to look at. Good idea, two thumbs up from me

Call me what you want but when i see those vidoe's of
them bull dogs on a hog and that hog gets to sqweeling
i tell ya my blood really gets pumping, I love watching that stuff.
so if yall can find a way to do it with out getting into trouble i'd go for it! :D

Naaw Its pretty much over they outlawed any bay pins in Fl a few years ago We were even made to take ours down we had in the hunt club. They used to have a real nice one in St george Ga. I used to love going to the bay pins it just like a rodeo. But you can bet they are still some privet pins left. I would love to see it come back. But I will say those hogs used in them get schooled and can WREAK hell on a dog that dont know what they are doing and thats when all the cryin starts. J

Sounds good, I like organize hunts in the wood though, not hogs that are already penned. It's too easy on the dogs and the hog is cornered too easy.

While the basic concept stays the same there will be no penned hogs. The hunt will be on a privately owned open hunting reserve. Kills will be utilized, not wasted.<O:p</O:p
    <O:p</O:p

The dogs would get titled through the Club, and would have to Win X amount of Open Competition Hunts in order to be recognized as a Catch Dog Champion
    <O:p
How to win a hunt will be explained in detail at later date but the basic outline is:
    <O:p</O:p

The first dog to return with the set bag limit wins the hunt. Win “so many” hunts and your dog gets a title (eg. 3xW = CH). The more hunts a dog wins the higher the titles get (eg. 5xW = GRCH, etc).
    <O:p</O:p
    <O:p</O:p

The way a hunt works is that each dog, it’s handler/team and a Ref. (so that no fouls or cheating occurred) would go thru the woods, the name of the game is “Seek and Catch”. Once the all hogs are caught (killed or tranquilized) the Hunt Party would return to Base. Whoever returns to Base first with the bag limit wins the hunt and winnings.

This competition is about a single catch dog chasing down and proving his worth at catching hogs. There will be no bay dogs in THIS type of competition.

Hog Dog competition is the next step of evolution for the Working Sporting Dogs it gives them LEGAL purpose while retaining the Historical Standard and Qualities that Working Dog purist so long for. These hunts would be open to all breeds and crosses.

Other events hosted the same weekend will be a multi-breed dog show and Sporting Dog Bash where all walks of life can come together to unite and work together for anti BSL, rescue, and other types of community work.

Hunts would be hosted as many times as possible throughout the year.

We would also develop a Magazine similar to what was once the SDJ. It would keep track of wins, champions, and production stats of the leading sires of wining Hog Dog offspring like the ROM list. It will also include stories about breeders and dogs as content, like the SDJ did.

REd, not trying to bust your bubble, but I have helped put on bay competitions for hounds in several states for the last 15 years and we have fought Peta and husus and every year it gets tougher for us. The last state it is legal for bear in is S.C. and last year the attorney general made us muzzel the dogs and use chains to make sure there was no contact between animals and dogs and even threatened the landowner with confiscation of his property if the event went wrong. We got a trick up our sleeve right now to get around things , but I am not at liberty to say at this time what it is. Hog bays are still legal in a few states, but they are slowly coming to an end also. Notice I said BAYS. Any catch competitions are going to be illegal if it inside a fence of ANY kind and an organized event for catchdogs is illegal if there is any contact made between animals and dogs at all. The new animal welfare law that was passed last year outlaws any fighting events where contact is made. Even if you were in the wild, no fences or nothing, if it is an organized event with any kind of money or trophy changing hands, it is breaking this law. And if the event was held in a trophy lodge, they would come down on you and the lodge also. WE have looked at it and our attorneys have looked at it and cant figure much of a way to get around it for an event . If you do come up with a way around it, I would definately be interested. And if you or the people you are dealing with would like to hear an idea I have had on making certified champion catchdogs that I believe to be totally legal in every way, pm me for a phone number and I will discuss it with you. Good luck.
