Spring Pole

Discussion in 'Products & Equipment' started by Little Butch, Dec 8, 2008.

  1. Just made my Dog a Springpole using plans from 'The Sporting Terrier'
She gave birth to just the one Pup about 13 Weeks ago and she's nearly back to her old self.... Just needs a little bit off her Belly.
How long should I let her go on the Springpole at a time?
I dont want to push her to much at first.

Also what would be good to tie on the end? She loves playing Tug of War with an old BMX tire, would that be alright?

    Cheers, Butch

Tires are fine......if you look up BOOGIEMANBLOOD or STILLWATER they also sell COWHIDES that are freakkkkkkkkkkkking awesome. I use the cowhides on the ends of my flirt/spring poles until the boys kill em' beyond recognition.

I am not sure how long you should let her play with it. I have not dealt w/ dogs who just gave birth. However, I tear away my 2 boys (girl does not like spring pole) after about 15 or 20 minutes or so.

  3. Cheers, I'll use the Tyre to begin with but I'm Into me Huntin' so when I get hold of a few Rabbits I'll tie the Skins on there....

Personal experience: When I let the dogs out on the spring pole, I let them go untill they decide they are done. Occassionally, we have to go out and "out" the dog off the rope. But in general...The dog will either get er done or lose interest. The call is yours to be honest!

I think just like with anything else you need to work a dog up gradually. A 5-10 minute session a few times a day would be a nice start and then you can gradually increase the time.

I have a spring pole in my garage and let my boy Kayden work it while I lift out there (have my weights in the garage). A typical lifting session for me is about 45 minutes and Kayden will be stuck to that dam thing the whole time and will stay out there on it if I let him (which is way too long in my mind).

  6. Cheers people, suppose It's just one of those things I'll have to decide by watching the Dog :)
I'll let her test It out Tommora...
