dangerzone

what does this forum think of this bloodline? i know its originally from florida, they are used alot for weight pulling and hog hunting i believe. But they seem to be a little heavyer then the original standard pit. Anyone knows why its a good bloodline or not? I personally own one.

 

I don't have any personal experience with that one, so I googled it. Eh. The dogs I saw didn't appear to be mutants or anything like that. But I also didn't see anything impressive on their website, if I was looking at the right one. So... I dunno. I've seen far worse, but I've seen far better as well.

 

I have a little experience with the line, and overall it's known for it's consistent ability to produce good sporting and conformation (although most of them look ridiculously long-bodied lol) prospects. The DZ dogs do tend to run on the large side, with females usually between 45 and 55 pounds and males generally in the 55-75 range. Although, again, these are just generalizations. I've seen them run rather standard, too. And although they are larger, they are still athletic enough to be versatile working dogs.

As with any line, you'll get some crappy, half-assed dogs. But being in FL, where the DZ are quite popular, I've seen a number of 'em I'd be proud to own (Check out Yard_Boy's bitches, Krunchy and Eve).

In my opinion, as a person who has owned and owns the DZ blood. I personally don't think they are any more superior than any other breed when it comes down to ones experience with any particular line.

In my experience of owning a loving the DZ blood stems from their ability to work. My "Eve" for example, not trained to guard or protect, but will get all up in your cavities over children. VERY human protective of those she loves! Yet she will run after and devour anyone offering her love and the good ole belly rub. Super friendly bitch, yet bi-polar. She will love all over a child or adult and see another animal and immediately..She's "HOTTTT". Some of you know "Eve" and know what I'm trying to describe here. (lol) I personally believe she is the hottest dog to show in UKC. At least when she's there anyhow! (lol) She will bang the gate allllll day trying to get another dog, but in that ring she is calm collected and there for business. VERY smart girl. Now...My only complaint is that she looks blah when up in weight. But looks severely emaciated when leaned out. Friday I was told by a UKC Judge that she is the most beautiful bitch she has seen in a while but she's underweight. I questioned the underweight remark as "Eve" is 55 pounds!! The problem is she seems to be 4-6 inches too long making her look starved when stacked up to a ring full of blobs that will not make the grade come Jan 01st 2009 according to the revised standard. She is a beast in structure lean or fat, but I like em as athletes not blobs.

Now..."Krunchy"....That bitch is 2 pounds heavier. TWO POUNDS!! And she is perfect when it comes to length, but there's something about her that I just don't like. Maybe it's her funky ass ears? (lmao)

Now as far as the blood being Florida based. It's not neccessarly because that is what works. It's because that is what folks are working. Meaning that there are other lines that are just as good at catching, but the DZ line seems to make it a professional art and offers it at a level where people who work them seek them out. Which brings us up to FAD. The fad of bigger is better is often stemmed from the DZ line as this line has bone for days. Bitches look like dogs in size! So some folks use it to make these monstrosities they dubbed American Bullies. Well....THAT all has finally come to a screaching halt. And this style of dog will soon find itself in it's own registry where they belong. UKC is starting to lean back toward the ADBA standard! (BIGGG SMILE) And trust me....In Florida UKC events....There are only a few of us who bring out TERRIERS. I can't wait!!! It will take a little time, but slowly but surely, your big top 10 names will fall off existance and you will start seeing more true to the types placing.

GSD stated it best....There are some good uns, and some bad uns! Just as any line. But overall....You would love the DZ line. There are some DZ bred dogs you will see that make you say typical fad "DAYUMMMM" but then there's that DZ bred that is the more respected "DAYUMMMM".

DZ is not for everyone! You need a healthy heart and good back. They will test both to the fullest when that 4 wheel drive kicks in!!! (lol)

I don't know if there is any official "Dangerzone kennel", and if we were looking at the same site- yuck!

Like Yard_Boy said, it's another fad so the quality of some dogs is debatable. Typically, though, you'll see large, long-bodied chocolate (Or less often, black/seal) dogs with goofy ears (Remember Katie's Roxy? She's half DZ)

 

As far as an official kennel for DZ...I do not think one exsist. I mean there are folks who breed whats left of the more correct stuff. I was lucky and obtained my DZ bitch from a son of Lenny Cahill who was a major player in the DZ line.

One of my faves traits about DZ is that for some reason, they don't seem to age at all. "Tuffy" died at 13, and "Jake" is a healthy 11 year old and doesn't look a day over 4. You remember him GSD? The show that Morgan judged...The rednose that took Best Rednose. He's offa Cahill's Irish Warrior. Here's "Jake"...

 

Sorry, i am kind of new to this forum community thing. If I knew i could do a search or how to do it i would have done it. Thanks to everyone that was helpful with your information by the way. And yes i am very impresed to see how my dangerzone male turned out, i bought it from maryland and had it shipped out here to cali about a year and 4 months ago. This dog just loves to work, i am impressed. The only reason why I was asking about the bloodline is because the people that breed them are always talking about the weight and seem excited about how heavy their dogs are. I see people very happy about dangerzone dogs that go up to 80-90 lbs and I was told before that anything over that is considered to be a bully. That's why i asked in this forum since its a game dog forum and that's how pits are supposed to be bred(with the game characteristics.)

 

oh and by the way, have any of you guys heard of a dog named joe lewis? He seem's to be very popular in the dangerzone line. My dog is a very close relative and has plenty of joe lewis in him and a lil bit of throwing knuckles from RE but I believe throwing knuckles is a RE from the old school, not like many of the recent ones with english or american bulldog blood in them. How can i put pictures up so i can show them to you guys and you can give me your opinions on him. I can take compliments as well as critisism

 

Ive got a male thats pretty much half dangerzone.Hes in the high 70's and will catch pigs all day long.Looks nothing like any dangerzone dog ive ever seen.

 

Mott's....Very nice DZ you have there. Just shows that depending on one's vision, ANY line can be bred up or down. I have a male that has some DZ in him as well and he's about the size of your male you posted.

Overall, the DZ is a very well rounded out line. Alike anything else...Depends on what your tastes are. I like that happy medium in my dogs so that is what I shoot for. A dog that will be consistant in show in any registry as well as NOT forfiet working desire and ability.

i realize this is a very old post but i stumbled on this dog and well he's my boy dovidios iron jake still producing and just took second place under mr. richard stratton jake is 63 chain wt. and 56 cond.wt. he is out of cahills irish warrior who was orig.dangerszones irish warrior jakes bottom half is pure ofrn.
