my dog is acting different

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by waitingformytime, Dec 1, 2008.

  1. I have a boxer right now and he seemed to love all things and everything ,but now he has gotten to be 1 year old he became a real mean dog to other dogs. really aggressive I mean the rottie down the street used to be his best friend but my dog bud bite him on the throat and made him get 12 stitches.:(

I have never owned a pit bull to maturity because one i had was stolen and the other one had to be given away because the insurance was to expensive.

so my question is for a pit bull do you they have fight bred into them from the start always scraping with other dogs (really going at it ) mine weren't like this ,or is it kind of like what happened to my boxer where it kind of just came along after he got older? or is it all the own specific dog?

I have owned many dogs that do not like other dogs. Dogs don't need doggie pals, your his pack, your his pal(your dog is growing into maturity now). I would never let my dogs romp with the neighbors dog, no matter the breed. dogs don't see other dogs as pals sometimes. Dogs usually get territorial when other dogs come onto their property, thats probably what happened with the rottie down the street, your dog came into his territory, and it was on, but your dog won, now with that, don't let your dog "play" with others, he dosen't play nice.

Is you dog male? Fixed? Is the Rot a male/female/fixed/in heat? Whose yard were they in when they got into it?

Some of those may answer your questions

Your dog is DA (dog aggressive). Please supervise your dog around other dogs. And no doggy parks. :)

    Catcher T - good post

it's not anything to do with the breed, it's a dominance thing, i've seen it from alot of angles i've seen hunting hounds a dog bred to be a non da pack hunter, turn out to be da, and i've seen pitbulls that you could put in the dogbox with other dogs and never have to worry about a fight.... guess some dogs just get an ego and they think they're the sh!t and aint nobody gonna mess with him.....

  7. i thought it might have been a dominance thing my mom walks him with her friend who owns the rot. they are both males both fixed i guess my dog is just a dick head now.

we live in a place where any powerful breed is automatically a child killing man biter so we dont take him to the park anyway.

Your dog is probably hitting his social maturity stage. The average age for most bull type breeds is 12-18 months. He should be starting to show dominance toward males around his living area, which usually consists of the area he's walking. A tell tale sign is when the males start lifting their leg to urinate, most males squat to urinate until this stage.

I agree Bishop is starting to do this and he is 14 months..... but in addition as stated earlier. Some dogs no matter the breed don't want dog friends and don't need them. and you should deffinatly supervise when he is around other dogs. I have to do this with Bishop he gets a bit nasty wit some dogs.
