Goodness gracious, that was the dumbest things I've ever read from an "experienced person", though how you could predict what would have happened had you used the stick when you've never used one is beyond me. And how would carrying a small piece of wood/plastic in your back pocket or on your wrist possibly hinder you from controlling your dog in any way, shape or form if you could hold your dog with any degree of competence?

 

Yeah this was post while I was posting here... question what do rescues do about educating potential people getting these dogs?

If they seem like nice people got and nice home just hand them over?

I know nothing about rescues so this is just a question I have

 

It depends solely on the rescue in question but sad to say that some just do hand them over to an "acceptable" home with no knowledge of the dog they got and whether or not it was DA. On the other side of the spectrum, I've seen some great informative people who were passionate about the dogs and strict on homing rules. It really depends on how "giggles and rainbows" the rescue is

 

Just keep reading, I remind you this is a rescue site... how in the hell are some of these people going to teach anyone anything

Dildo = breakstick? I am not following or is that you way of trying to be funny? And breaksticks are only a few inches long and you can carry them in your back pocket. So not seing the stick comparison.



And I do live in the woods and there are many loose dogs. And you can not kick them all away. And as a "pit bull" owner it is up to us to be more responsible than the average dog owner and for us to be ready for everything. because no matter what happens we will be the ones that are in the wrong. For a "pit bull" owner to say a breakstick is not necessary is very irresponsible. But maybe I am assuming that the ones that say that you do not need them are the ones that never used them.

Sorry water, tazers, mace (I have seen them all mentioned on this site) is not effective or safe for the dog.

Oh lordy. CD, your posts have been extremely helpful and non threatening. They have some defensive people on that forum. One person actually asked Marty what he was doing over there since he is so busy on this forum?

These people are missing out on valuable information. Little do they realize they will obtain more knowledge from gamedog people versus your run-of-the-mill pet owners.

 

I want to join over there and support the breaking stick brigade, but no. No more forums. Especially not a forum that I can tell right off the bat is going to just jack up my blood pressure. I learned my lesson with that one.

I've been banned more times than I can count from that forum.

Folks, you're talking about a rescue that sells puppies to people and abandons the momma dogs once they make all they can from her pups. You're talking about people who are much less interested in the dogs themseves than the "pride" and "respect" they have and get from rescuing these dogs. I've heard stories of numerous HA dogs being tossed around from person to person within the rescue until a serious bite occured. I've heard downright horrid stories of emaciated dogs and severely ill dogs not receiving proper care in the hands of the rescue.

I can tell you from experience of being over there that we are not going to change them. Personally, these aren't people I will work on changing. These are people I will fight against. I will fight to get those dogs out of their hands in an effort to keep my dogs in my hands.

Oh, & by the way. That's the forum in which the owner & several admin took a picture of my son, Cole, and used him in their avators all the while cracking jokes about hime being a "retard" and a "waterhead baby." They can rot in hell for all I care.
