My dog has lived in a condo and this is her second apartment. She does really good inside. I like my dogs in the house. But don't find anything wrong with people who don't as long as their dog gets adequate attention and care. Since I just moved into my new apartment I have a 15 foot lead I tie around the ac unit so she can wonder around in the grass and I stay out there with her. She gets walked but not far enough right now because her leg is hurt. But I still play with her daily. Whenever I find out about her leg and get it fixed and she's in tip top shape we'll start biking. And thats how I keep my house dog goin'. But I think she's gotten a lot calmer since shes gotten older. (few months from being 2.)

Oh yeah also wanted to add I'm going to start weight pulling after her legs good too. And would love to get a treadmill.

Marty and Chinasmom, how often do you guys have to replace/refill the rock dust and what is its cost , Thanks.

Ps, Marty, that pic of you and your dog, is priceless man.............:)

I think the cost in SC was around $13.00 a ton. I would have to find the receipt to make sure though. As of yet, I haven't had to replace. When it gets low in spots or week, I just get out the shovel and rake. If you have access to a truck that size you can pick it up yourself, if not, you have to pay to have it dropped.

Know one answered my question so, Ill just tell you what I am going to do. Moving into an Apt and gonna have an indoor kennel setup one dog possibly two (would have two seperate kennels in this case.) Good idea or bad?? all opinions are welcomed.

By kennel, do you mean like a pen or a crate?

just me but im not a fan of having dogs like these in small alpartments. if you have them kenneled they will urinate and defocate in the kennel which will be nasty inside your home. crating may be an option but i dont see more than one dog working like that unless they spend most of thier life in the crate, which isnt ideal either. i know this isnt what you probably want to hear, but i would wait until i was in a house situation with a yard.

i waited 4 years to get a dog for that very reason. JMO

thks for the reply and i understand that an apt isnt the best situation for these dogs, but i know there are many out there that do make it work. First off i plan on spending as much time with the dog as possible so coming after work and cleaning up some shit wont be my biggest problem or putting up with the smell.I dont wanna leave the dog in a crate for 8hours because ive seen some who are shy for that very reason.

forgive me if i missed somthing but, are you going to keep a 5'x5' kennel possibly two in an apartment?

I really believe I would hold off. JMO That doesn't sound like a situation a dog should have to live in.

I understand i said all opinions are welcome, but chinasmom when u say "a conditon a dog should not live in" what is so bad about an indoor kennel i dont understand??? This is why i was asking for opinions because i know there are others out there keeping dogs in an apt. I asking if you had dogs and had to live in an apt what would you do?? Thks once again.

I think there is a difference between having a dog and having to live in an apartment and living in an apartment and having to have a dog.

    do you get the drift?

While it can work its is less than ideal to raise a dog of this breed in an apartment.
