the plain Yogurt has bacteria cultures in it to help break down the foods and improve the bioavailabilty of other nutrients.Which means it helps the dogs body to properly absorb alot more of the nutrients in the foods being fed.It also helps the dogs body to manufacture nutrients and vitamins which help boost both the immune and digestive systems.

Organ meats include chicken hearts, liver, kidneys, gizzards etc...

Yogurt is also a great source of calcium. The calcium/phosphorous ratio of a dogs diet should be 2 to 1. So if you feed meat which is phosphorous, you also need to add calcium.

I've never fed BARF but I heard you have to fast the dog one day a week something about the toxins building up, have you all heard about this?

Unless you are feeding meat w/bone.
I feed my dogs turkey necks, chicken leg quarters, turkey legs, turkey wings, chicken backs, duck wings, pork necks, etc. and therefore do not add extra calcium to their diet.

The organ meat that I feed would be kidneys, liver, and gizards. I also feed heart (chicken, turkey, and beef), but I do not consider heart organ meat.

As far as Nupro, my Akita is allergic to yeast and cannot tolerate Nupro Gold or Silver. It would make him blow coat really badly, his ears would get icky, and he would scratch himself to death.

For veggies I use a mix called Veg-To-Bowl, made by Dr. Harvey. My dogs love it, and I love not having to mix up fresh veggies.

I do fast all of my dogs (over 1yr old) for a 24 hour period once a week, normally on Fridays. I have never heard anything about toxins building up.
I do it to allow their digestive tracts to take a break and empty out completely. It keeps them from building up bacteria, but I also fast my dog that is kibble fed.
Fasting also helps boost the dog's immune system, and allows the body time to work on healing or recovery.

One of the best sources of natural protein and very cheap! You can also add cottage cheese or canned jack mackeral for added protein.

Organ meat is a must also....chicken gizzards are very cheap and also beef liver are good choices.

Greens are finely chopped up with a food processor....kale, collard greens, baby spinach, yams and carrots is what I add!

Yes true..bones contain calcium but guess what..they contain phosphorous too. Therefore I give a little extra calcium..but to each his own.

Hey UltimateK9, that's how it's done! Nice variety.

I use all of those ingredients as well, other than the veggie mix. I also will add, depending on the season and the prices, venison, rabbit, goat, and any other wild animal meat I can get my hands on.

As far as fasting goes, I have always done it, but not because I thought toxins would build up, but that may be true, I don't know. I do it because I mimic the wild and wolves will not eat everyday. They will travel and hunt for days and even weeks sometimes before making a kill. Not only that the raw diet is almost completely absorbed and there is very little waste. Meaning they hold onto the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals for a longer period of time, so they really can go without eating. I have experienced in the past that when I do feed my dogs everyday, especially in the hotter months, they don't always eat it. They will try and bury it. I interpret this as that they aren't needing to eat at this time. I will feed my dogs every other day and sometimes every two or three days. They look very healthy and this is why raw feeding is actually cheaper than kibble!

I hope that makes sense, lol.
