Question regarding blues / bluffs

    Hey guys,

Basically I have lloved pits ever since I met my first one when I was a kid, never met another breed that loved to play or had a personality like an APBT.

But anyway my parents purchased me my first dog for Christmas of last year.

I have been reading on these pit bull websites because my dog like all loves exercise and I looked up games / toys to make for them and so far have just been working with the flirt pole.

I have been waiting for her to get to 12 or so months old so I can start her on spring pole. One thing I been doing is holding the flirt pole up and having her pull down on it just like she would on a spring pole to kind of get her used to that activity.

Anyway I was reading on here and I found a thread titled bluffs, and a few people in there were mentioning how Blue APBT's are not really APBT's because they are bread for color / size over what they should be breeding for.

I was just curious if this is always the case, my dog is not an American Bully style dog, she has a game-dog shape to her.

She is 10 months old and weighed 37 pounds at her last vet appointment.

Anyway I just wanted to say hello to everyone, as this is my first post and share my story thus far and I added a few pictures of my dog below, She is 10 months old in those pictures.

Thanks looking forward to everyone's comments.

I will get a side-shot of her tomorrow.

edit : Also figured I would add I feed her Merrick Dry Kibble, and she also gets daily NuVet Plus.

Thanks Marty, I thought the other section was a General Newbies section, Didn't realize it was a FAQ section until after I posted.

    Thanks again for the welcome.

Welcome! I have been going thru this blue thing in my head as well and talked with a bunch of people about it and got this from it. Blue is a trait that bulldogs carry and it pops up in SOME dogs. Where they fall out of the game bred side is when the color pops up people tend to forget about the gameness and bred for that trait grey/blue or whatever. For instance Wildsides' Dracula his dam was white and blue or charcoal if you call it that and she was game bred so her offsprings were a varitey of colors. The thing about blues not being pitbulls I guess that would be sort of being to each his own, BUT most blues are not game bred so thats why they fall out the category of being apbt and become ast. Hope that helps you in your quest for knowledge.

    Welcome!

There are "blue" APBTs, but it isn't something people go out of their way to breed for like the American Bully crowd does. Blue is just a diluted black.

pretty dog, me, i call em all bulldogs wether it be a pitbull, am bulldog, bull mastiff, bully dog, so that way they are within the same category. reason why most blue dogs aren't a true apbt is because there's all these people out here who just breed for the color and nothing else in mind just to make a quick buck. there are a few blue dogs that were champions in the box in history.

  13. Agreed most blue's arn't game. Yours on the other hand seems to have the blue with the breed standard look to her. I think that blue is a rare color if it isn't a bullystyle dog that is. Heres mine. Old pics by the way. She's a 1 year 4 months here.

I'm pretty sure that isn't considered blue fawn... it looks to be either light red, light chocolate, or "champagne."

    This dog is blue fawn/white.

No look at the 2nd picture down where shes not in bright light i would say she is blue fawn

if you look closely, even at the second picture, the nose/flews are clearly red.

  19. LOL It was real bright that day, and the camara flashed. She's even darker now. Vet says shes blue. Though I could care less what color she is, and I never said she's a blue nose ect. Blue coat.

Wait, I'm not following... now you say she has a blue coat and not a blue nose? But I thought you said she was a blue fawn.

Oh well -- my vet said my red and white/rednose dog was tan.

    Dunno.
