  1. Opinions are just what they are, opinions! Here is a fact. Shy dogs and cold dogs and cur dogs and game dogs can come in all lines. There is no "they are mostly" or in "this line" you get "so and so" you get in all in all.

As a proud owner of colby bred dogs I have to say they tend to be outstanding animals. Our orginal stock came from Jack Colby's yard many years ago and since we have made our own additions. I've said it before and I'll say it again I will ALWAYS own a colby dog.

These dogs are great pure, in a cross, even at 1/4 in my experience. Anything you ask of them and its done. As with all lines I've seen a few shy/skiddish ones, heard of a few human aggressive ones, and even heard of a few that are just not worth owning. I've been lucky to work with the ones I have, extremely so. I work with mainly blood down from Sam, only recently adding 2 females off Jude (who I fed before this breeding, not to mention currently feeding his littermate sister) and CH Princess (who has blood down from Lou's yard).

Now if you want the "real deal" you should go with a colby from those that do it best, the family themselves. I have colby blood, the colby name is right up front, but any breedings I have done off those orginal dogs are my own and make them Townsend dogs..lol

Good luck, you'll hear good and bad about every line but you stay true to what YOU like/want and you can't go wrong. You are the one feeding it so it matters nothing what anyone else thinks.

Does Jack Colby have a site? I've been wanting a Colby dog but Lou is so far away and I didn't know he had a brother breeding here in Texas

Jack is Lou's son, not his brother. He does have the internet but not a website. I do have his # and email, but won't give it out without his permission, I will ask him (I'm sure it won't be a problem). I do know he doesn't have anything available at this time, and like Lou often has a waiting list

Been to John's in Texas. Nice set-up, nice dogs. Wonderful guy to talk to. He enthralled two visitors from Holland I brought over to him one afternoon...

If I got this right. There is two Colby's breeding dogs atm. Lou and his son. Is there some significant difference between the lines that they cary? In their appearasence, drive, head (in side I mean) etc?

Also if htere is pictures of pure COlbys available I would love to see them. I have seen the ones that are at Colbys webpage but otherwise dont know if I've seen any...

What I have read about Colby's and their dogs I have been thinking that COlby could be the dog form me.
Well. I have time to reaserch for the dog and the breeder that I am interested because I can't take a new dog atm but it is good to know in advance what to want in future. :D

That should give you idea of what colby dogs look like. Most of ours tend to have the white head. I love this line of dogs!

    Thanks LadyRampage.
Your dogs come from Johns line of dogs am I right? Or does some of these dogs come from Louis's kennel?

LR's dogs are down off of Sam who was a dog from Johns yard. Lou is the breeder to the sire and dam of Sam so basically its a combonation of both, but in LR's case and to answer your question her dogs would be considered off of Jacks yard.. Lou and John ship dogs back and forth to each other for breeding purposes, you will very easily have a dog down from them that shared homes on both yards.

so you would say that there is no significant difference between John's and Lou's dogs?

I've read a lot of about Colby dogs recently and I have to say that they seem like great animals and Colbys history of dog breeding is awesome. I highly respect Colby's and their job. I did before but atm the respect has gronw on a different level. :D
COlbyDOgs and LadyRampages post have been wery helpfull. Thanks :)

Why are people on here so interested in Colby dogs all of a sudden?? It seems this line has been a hot topic on the board lately and I am curious why. Ive seen Stillwaters colby dog(s) and I can say they are the only Colby bred dogs that I have looked twice at. With every Tom, Dick and Harry knowing about Colby dogs and where to get em, Its hard to beleive that the Colbys are breeding to old time standards.

I havent seen much if any Colby blood up close in todays fastlane winners around the world, maybe Im not lookin in the right places??

Heinzel/Colby would be the only Colby bred dog I would feed if I got it from a person I know.

To be honest the interest in colby dogs comes and goes unless you are some of the few die hard fans, like myself, who have had these dogs for a very long time.

Personally I think I have been on and off the net over the last few years that most people realize that I feed colby dogs, but there are alot of people that just don't advertise. When I first started feeding colby dogs over 11 years ago I had many debates over the good and bad in the line, with the majority really talking up the bad. It gets old having to defend your choice to feed what you like and alot of people just don't tell you. If I had a nickel for everytime I was given a hard time for owning/feeding colby dogs I'd have a good chunk of change. The difference is I didn't care, oh don't get me wrong I have been pissed off ALOT with the bashing, but I am the one feeding my dogs, and I know the truth.

My colby dogs are getting tight for my taste since we have been using basically Oden for so many years so we recently had a fine gentleman do a trade with us (a colby for a heinzl) and we are fixin to do a nice cross to freshin things up.

The colby strain is tightly bred, and to be honest at times you can see it plain as day, we have did pure breeding, crosses, and now we are going to blend in some heinzl.

I'll have to show off when we do our first cross, which is coming in the next few months. I can't wait to see what we get. This heinzl male has beautiful structure and his intensity should blend very nicely with what we have on the colby side.

I have had them for the past 38 years so my interest in them is nothing new. Good dogs are where you find them and IMHO my family has always found them on Lou's yard so I will continue to look there. There are not as many oldtimers around these days who have the experience and knowledge that the Colby family has so I completely respect them for that. If Heinzel bred dogs are so good then why did he get his dogs from Lou ? Do you think maybe he too knew where to get good dogs ?

You can say what you want about the line of dogs however ( not meaning to be an ass ) in all reality who are you compared to him ? What have you done for the breed ? What legacy will you leave behind ? When is someone going to write a book about your dogs and the history behind them ?

The man has been around for an awful long time, I think his line of dogs have withstood the test of time. There are quite a few dogs out there earning thier feed that not everyone has seen so I am sure you have not seen them all.

You can feed what you want bro, I wont knock you for it, all I ask is for you to show the same respect for my dogs.

You shouldnt get so defensive when one questions the particular line of dogs you run..
Instead you should have given him a few examples of dogs from the Colby line that have made a name for themselves..

I couldnt begin to tell you how many people have told me that Frisco dogs are garbage, and I shouldnt even mess with the stuff..I simply give examples (many in need be) of quality dogs from this line..

I dont dislike Colby dogs, but usually that line doesnt come up when you arre discusing modern game lines. No disrespect intended, I have never claimed to see them all, its just not popular in certain circles.

Much respect to the family for breeding them to their standards for all the years for sure. Im not knocking the dogs, its just you dont hear much from that line outside the show ring.

SPF, comparing Frisco dogs to Colby bred dogs isnt a very good comparison. Kinda hard to compare 1 dog to 100 yrs of breeding.

Thanks for clearing that up, i know my words might have seemed harsh however It really wasn't my intentions on it coming off the way it did.

And your right it doesn't come up in certain circles, ands that can be a good thing especially this day in age.

Well... I think I have to anver too because I am the one with all the questions... ;)

My interest with the Colby dogs at the moment is due because I have only reacently been around with the better knowledge about theese dogs (APBT in general) There has been so much information about the breed and the breeders for me in last year that I think I've lost half of it by the way... :)
I'm trying to find out as much as possible about the breed and the breeders. In Colbys dogs the history of breeding dogs for over 100 yrs was what got me so interested. I'm also very interested about other breeder too like Sorell, Crenshaw etc. but have yet lots of questions about Colby and then move on. I really can't handle too much information at the same time. ;)
