  1. if i was to get my dog pulling an old car tyre on a cycle track for a few miles whilst i cycle, and increase the weight by a few pound each time he goes out.. what you think would happen to him..?? would he use to much energy and become thin or would he develop a good solid physique?? thanks.

Tires grip surfaces that they are being dragged across, so even if it is a light weight tire, it is still more difficult on gritty surfaces. Also, IMO, a dog shouldn't be pulling while you bike, you should be walking. He will also build muscle great with just walking and biking.

What you feed and the amount will determine whether or not the dog gets thin or lookin good and in shape!

I personally start of with a light tire or barbell weight....that comes to 5 lbs "dragging weight" not hanging weight! To get the dragging weight you need to attach a scale between your harness and tire and pull!

Pipbull is right....you should be walking beside your dog when they pull weights!

  4. thanks for replys. will you answer this with a yes or no answer. if i get my dog weight pulling and gradually increase weight. will he add more muscle mass and strength (if i get his protein carbohydrate fat mix) spot on. just like a weight lifter will increase weight. or is a dogs physique very hard to change. without steroids<<<<<<<< steroids are not an option.. i ask because i want to show him. but his face/muzzle isnt that strong and im hoping i can win on him having an excellent physique. thanks

If you want that dog to look good Just work him like he was going in the box Thats what a well fit dog peaked out dog Should look like. Not all bulked up where hes out of gas before the race starts. Just hand walk him , sprint him , swim him, Pull a LIGHT drag chain,(short time) and be on time every day and feed good food and rub him down after every work out and watch his feet. Thats all you need to do. J

If you run a dog to much he will lose muscle. Or you feed or rest him not good. 2/3 times a week running (on mill, or beside bike, jenny) for 1 to 1,5 hours is enough. You have to do different exercises for strenght and endurance that's very important.

If you over train you will just tear your dog down. Dogs are pretty limited on how much they can gain muscle.

HOW your dog shows, his demeanor in the ring and how you handle him will be the difference maker. I'd find an AKC club and take a few handling classes. In your case that will give you your best chance to win. In AKC they don't really pay that much attention to conditioning. It will be more a matter of "type" and what the judges think a dog, boxer in your case should look like.
