I thought the name of the game was scratchin. If the bastards not coming out of the gate it is a cur. Plain and simple. I can see if it defensive in the box where it knows how to get out of holds or keep from getting killed but if its not moving and is letting its opponent cross the line then its a rap...

OK a game dog will scratch a curr may sing ,Jump or not scratch. Even if he may fight back out of fear He no longer wants to play. That is why the cajun rules were put in to dogmens hands. the dog that does not scratch looses. And most dogs even pups will go foward when you pull them back and let them go. Try and see if they wont Its in thare blood to go ahead. So if they stand they curr. If you keep them do your self a favor dont breed them you will be taking one step foward two steps back. Hope this helps you understand Remember this though A true deep game dog is harder to find than most think Alot of people think they have a deep game dog But not many really know for sure. There is a very fine line between Deep game and dead game. Yis s

    Hello everyone.
I will give you part of my opinion. The topic it self is very complicated and there are many ways to see it. It is best to see tru the eyes of the dogman"
The word gameness and the word cur, to me in part are not like a light switch, "ON and OFF" .

In fact as part of the selection we look for those who have shown deeper gameness, and that is the key of the question. They all are game to a few people until they stop, and I seen a few gr ch and ch that had made every fault in the book , but stopping at the ten second mark, from taking counts, to sweeping the floor, taking snap polaroid shots to the people, side two step walking, opera soprano, etc, etc

I sen some that many would say "Man he was a bulldog" and I would think , "How is that a bulldogs, when he went into nobody every time"

A gamedog is when gameness was shown. A funny thing is that many can only take that experience on time around, and others can be so close to dead game time after time.

That is why to me all it comes in numbers and not a switch on and off.

I rank a dog in every way possible , from 1 to 10. Air, speed, body confirmation, mouth etc, I rank the dog people too. Some one that breeds 90% of the time and show 10% he is more of a breeder or a pedaler depending his motivation and his execution, results etc. I seen some that have a handler, a conditionier, and everything they have/use, they purchased, but they called themselves dogmen.

As curs and game dogs also people came as doggers, dog faciers, gamblers, breeders, fanciers etc.. everything cames in a raking.

Just owning a dog or owning 100 do not make a person a great dogman. However the more you owned hopefully the more experience one can have, key word is hopefully.

You never want any kind of cur, even the rubbed one.

Yes a cur is a cur, no doubt. However there are some curs that are way more cur than others. I think one that stands the line after talking a couple for the team, is not just a rank cur, like the one that at the 10 minute mark just went Australian style( kangaroo).

In the same Tolkien no excuses , but also how many times a jack ass shows a dog sick, anemic, fucked up, over worked, pushing weight, all of that counts.

That is why I said all of them can quit if you do everything wrong at one time.

However , the gamest families always had a consistent character and personality of a good worker. Key word consistency.

Take in considerations that all of them have just that much bulldog in them. I seen some of them from some people that show consistently great on the first times,a nd slowly , start to be lesser every time after that. When the dog man knows that goes from the killer that makes gr ch into a nobody or a previous looser.

Most people assumed that a title is like an automatic filter that gives pureness of quality of some kind.

People assumed that all behind that tittle is great.

A good old timer dog man told me about his yard, I am surprise when they do not stop after 45. Another one ( very big name) told me it takes many to find one that is special. Meaning good!

Consistency is the key or the fault of every breeding program.

Everything that can be measure can be improved! said John Lawhon ( a furniture salesperson).

Behavior is something special once you know it you can predictmost the times people, and most animals. That is why is good to know your family of dogs.

Shy, spookie dogs are a few of my dislike.

My opinion my be something that a few will apreciate.a few!
I hope it can help Thanks

If a dog doesnt come out and gets counted, the match is over and that dog is a cur. Period.

    Thoughtful response, Chico.

What gets me is the people who would call a dog that was behind for over an hour, hurt, going into shock, maybe not handled/kept well a cur because after all that it stood the line. Its not dead game but a rank cur? I don't think so.

Think about it, if the roles were reversed, if you were in the cage/ring for that amount of time under adverse conditions would you answer the bell? I doubt it.

According to a member here A well bred gamedog has a 65% chance of being Special lol. It is my belif that a true quality gamedog is way more of a rare occurance. If the every well bred pup has a 65% chance of being worthy of being bred. Great studs and Brood bitches would be a dime a dozen and every asshole who purchased a few well bred pups would be a damn Floyd B. jmo

    BG,

Your math is off...I said 65% chance of NOT being special. That would be 35%. It has been my experience that when dogs are bred out the a$$ and the breeding is as well thought out as possible that about one in 3 turn out well.

A dog going into shock, is not a cur.
