My lil carver bitch just had one pup yesterday.. I went outside to check on her and it looked like she had something in her mouth. I went out there and its this lil pup just squeeling away..

All this anticipation for 1(one) pup.. lol omg... Anyways...its a healthy lil girl I think. I haven't really messed with her too much. (trying to give her time to bond). But she has let me come near her. she actually brought me the pup and just looked at me like..."what do I do."

I anticipated on farming at least one out, but lucky me gets to keep the pup for our kennel. I pray she stays healthy.

Anyone have any good tips for me to ensure a happy healthy mother and pup..?

    Good Day...

    YIS

Not much you can do just let her be a mother. When did she giving birth because she might not be done just yet. But if you have her outside bring her inside because of the heat outside.

She is in a really great shaded area.. Pretty much like 1 acre area under nothing but trees. For some odd reason, she moved the one pup fro her house to the small hole she's nestled in between these bushes.. Plus its a great overcast day today so I don't think its going to get too hot.

She gave birth around 5 p.m. yesterday. I think she is done. She's running around and seems to be in no pain or discomfort. So I think its safe to assume everything is fine. I;m at home for a few weeks, so I'll be here to keep an eye on them.

Is it the dog in your sig? I have always heard that single pups usually do better because there is less competition.

Nah.. its a different dog.. That dog in my sig has some, but mostly alligator/redboy/carver cross.

I haven't bred her yet. She is about 4 years old. I want a good stud, but hard to find decent alligator blood.

JMO but i would put the mom and pup in a pen off the ground, way too much potential for disease on the ground

Congrats on the pup , very strange that only one came all the way , usually they have around to 8-10 pups I noticed . Good luck with him , and I'm sure they will stay healthy as long as they are kept in clean warm nursing area , and are fed good , well the mom at least . Some supliments for the mom would be a good thing , and I used to give my females eggs during their nursing days , to keep up with the youngsters .

:) Congrats! I was wondering.....(sent you a lil message, the other night, as i saw you were concerned about only having one). and yeah, it's not common but does happen, as is apparent...
heck, he'll have a never ending milk supply!!!!! ;)
just be sure he's warm and dry. i'm sure by nature/instinct, 'mom' will know right what to do!
    congrats, Daddio~ :D

that was a smart thing !If you guys are going to breed dogs you Really need a brood pin with a fan and welping box If its hot you will loose a lot of pups with out one. Plus if shes a new mother she may kill a lot laying on them and being to rough. Best of luck with your pup. YIS J

LOL...Yeah he's doing great. TripleJ trust me, mom and pup are in a very cool spot. The dogs never get hot. :-) I'm glad, because this heat is going to get bad this summer..

Thanks Suki.. I checked out that site. Great information there. I made sure I bookmarked it. She just had one pup no more. When he gets older I;ll post pictures. Its going to be red with black ears and a black mask. He has black stockings going up his legs...lol and his tail is black with a black stripe going down his back..

    Thanks for the info everyone...

yeah man.. That hurt real bad. Since she only had one pup.. I was like damn. She was doing good with it. I went outside this morning and saw it nursing. I saw her licking it. Then I went out about 4 hours later and I noticed the pup just laying there. I went over there and he was twitching a bit and moving around. I went inside, went to go get some stuff to try to revive the pup and by the time I got back to it... (6 minutes later), he was dead..

Oh well. Must have been something wrong with him from the get go.. I'll just have to try again next year. I'll pass on her next heat cycle.. No rush here... But it sure would have been nice. i've never seen a pup go through such a color transformation. He was going to be a cocoa color instead of a deep read. A cocoa colored dog with a black mask and points..And he was very muscular for such a small dog. :-)

    No pics though..
