    ADBA show.... age requirment

Okay I am looking at the adba events calender and I considering entering woot. I am VERY new to showing and wanted some insight from those that have experienced this. Woot will be 4 months on the 25. I am looking at the shows in south carolina but not sure if she will be old enough.

What should I expect... is it like the fancy shows where she has to stand perfect?

So anyone that can dabble some insight would be amazing!

here is woot by the way

Your dog is old enough to be entered in the 4-6 month age group. But i would recomend going to a show and just watch to see how things go and you will have a better feel for things when you come back to show your dog.

The shows are quite laid back. Main things to remember- a sturdy crate, bowls for water, a good collar (no choke chains/clip collars), and a 4 foot lead. Not many of the dogs hold still (i know atleast mine dont when i've taken them, unless they have zero'd in on a specific dog lol)

If you can get her to mostly stand still while the judge is walking around her it def. helps. But they arent expected to stand like the AKC dogs or anything ;) They get points for "Terrier Spirit/Attitude".

    Cute pup BTW

OH thank you suki I have a 2 shipping crates and a wire crate. I am fixing to order her 2 new collars one from stillwater and one from collarmania I can't wait. I have been using the normal buckle collars from petsmart but she is almost 5 months and I want her to have some good collars now. I need to find some shows closer to home... but I am having no luck we start are next training class next week so we will be working on stand she should have no problem

Im "Miss Conduct", not Suki ;) And you are welcome lol

My 2 cents, DONT take the wire crate, take a shipping crate. Ive seen unattended dogs bust out of those wire ones in the middle of a show... no good.

One more thing no one has mentioned .. Which it sounds like since you are attending classes with her, she is up to date on all vaccines, just make sure she is! I have yet to attend a ADBA show where they check vaccine records, meaning you never know how good the next person has been with that, or the hundreds of people before you! And bring plenty of baggies for picking up after your pup .. allthough you will see a few people who are too lazy to.

Be on time for your classes! Sometimes you can hear them calling, sometimes you cannot. Make sure you are paying attention, shows take long enough as it is and being ontime helps things run smoother (of course things happen though..)

And give plenty of space between you and the next dog. Sometimes the holding ring or show ring gets a bit crowded and it should be up to the ring steward or judge to correct it, and sometimes you will get someone who isn't paying attention or doesn't care they aren't giving your dog enough leeway. Remember your dog may not be dog aggressive but you can bet the house that other dogs will be!! Better to be safe than sorry. So just watch out for someone else who isn't paying attention.

And NEVER leave your dog unattended. People steal dogs, mess with dogs, poke their fingers in where they don't belong! It's happened at shows before. Dogs get out (even of shipping crates, I've known dogs to chew through them in about 2 -5 minutes lol or bust right through the door..)

Also your gonna want to get her used to having her teeth looked at by the judge. Now is a good time to practice that technique.
