After look ing at these dogs, there is no way they are APBT. I own an A bull dog and a Dogue de bordeaux and think if they were bred this is what would happen, luckily both are fixed. I just do not think its ethical to sell a dog as a purebred if its not. They look neat, but as we all know too well looks mean nothing. Any opinions?( here is a link too see the web site: www.castlekingkennel.com

Looks like you stuffed a APBT into a Bassett Hounds parameters. Gross to the max, but I wouldnt say it was Dogue De Boureaux for sure or it would most likely be taller, those legs didnt come from that breeding.

I must say, I have been to this kennel, and the dogs are very well taken care of. Some people like bigger dogs, I don't see a problem with that. I agree, I doubt there is any Bordeaux in there.

I believe these are Pit Bulls with a form of dwarfism called "chondrodysplasia". It occurs in several breeds and appears to be a recessive trait. I have seen purebred Stafs with this. (the short legs with various degrees of crookedness -- it is the same thing that makes Basset Hounds, Basset Hounds). It would be easy to breed for and propagate.

In most breeds, dogs with this trait are culled, but a segment of Pit Bull breeders are basing entire programs on it....The Alaskan Malamute Club has a program to test for and reveal the dogs which have or carry it...

Check out the links -- some interesting pictures and info...

Im sorry but this is not the case, from what I have seen in the recnt years I have been in this breed, with this dog or any other "APBT" breeder(big blue whales). The ones that are calling these dogs APBT they are not. They are a mix bred dog with several other breeds in it from the begining. They falsify the papers and lie to the public. Then you have the people like yo and 90% of the ignorant people out there beleiving these are real APBT's. I am sorry not being mean but they are mutts just like the 2 I have in my back yard at this moment.

My good friend has an APBT/Dogue de Bourdeaux cross (it was intentional as the dog is a catch dog and comes from working parents).

Anyways, I've emailed him asking him for some pics so people can see what he looks like. ;)

I'll clarify -- I think some of them ARE mixed breed.

I think SOME of them are just BIG, overdone purebred Pit Bulls WITH dwarfism.

The dwarfism by itself, added to a pure-bred dog, is enough to create a new breed because it is so different from the original dog.

A breed is "a domestic race of dogs (selected and maintained by humans) with a comon gene pool and a characterized appearance and function."

These "dwarf" dogs do not have the characteristic appearance and function of the Pit Bull, (they are grossly different) so are therefore a different breed.

I think you can kinda tell the dwarfed ones -- they have a normal-sized head and body on the short legs...."normal"-sized here in this picture means one of those BIG Pits you do see that still are Pit Bulls.

Although a case could be made I suppose that that BIG Pit is a different breed as well!

I've seen these dogs at Petsmart, etc....they are REALLY short, some with REALLY crooked legs (a characteristic of this "chondrodysplasia) - but other than that, they "look" like a Pit Bull.

There are a couple of individuals in the Am Staf breed that are known to produce it...a lot of these "low rider" breeders found that out, have capitalized on it and now it is everywhere. If you go back in a lot of low-rider pedigrees, you will find this dog.

I think this is a mixed dog (maybe with english bulldog?) and it looks like it can't even run for 10 min straight. This dog has a body that has no function so it is a very poor dog.

i agree, i saw 2 just like this one at the AADR show today, while every other dog was yelping, jumping, pulling, and my own girl rattling in her kennel and practically doing summersaults every time i'd let her out from the excitement of being around so many other dogs, the 2 like these were doing none of that, they walked quietly (except for heavy panting) with their owners and never pulled on their leads, and i don't think it was just a difference in temperment, i really think they just didn't have the physical ability to be walked around the park and have any energy left over, they were spent! i watched them as their owners would stop and they'd lay down with their back legs splayed out every chance they had. definately quite different from any pit bull i've ever owned!

I've seen a Pit Bull/English Bulldog cross and they look quite different from the dog above. The skull shape is different, with very little muzzle...

I don't understand why so many get so much entertainment about talking about these dogs. People need to realize that everyone likes different things. These dogs are'nt meant for anything besides pets, and that is all the owners want them for. So what if they don't have endurance and get along with other dogs. What about someone liking a dog like that makes you all so upset. Get over it. They are'nt going away whether every wannabe gamedog owner wants them gone or not.

You are right MTNDOG but those dogs are being peddled in mass and you know the problems related to this, when one of the many bullys bite, a "pit bull" is biting.

I love all dog breeds but the problem behind those dogs are many owners (not all) that'll buy a dog for looks and that fits into his machoman winstrol attitude, with no clue about bullys, apbt or any bully breed or their care but they'll talk chit about our little weak dogs that would get stomped by their 150lb muscle beast dog named Conan and how the "evolution" of the APBT to the modern times is the american bully.

Dogs are always victims, here is the same when "breeders" instead improve their animals health by selective breeding, just breed for massive look, color, size but with many health problems and for big bucks.

One reason I stopped coming here frequently...

I don't understand how this is a gamebred site, but if there is a post about a hippo, mutant, etc. there is 90+ replies. I'll check in a few more months.

I to love all dog breeds , not that big of a fan for some of them , but what can you do .. , but PirbullBongo is right , bullies advertised as pitbulls , as well as mixed pitXstaff dogs that end up on the worng hands , and does harm , bites , etc... is just bad publicity for the breed . The dog posted above is a bully by all standards , and i bet has a lot of health problems . As for the fact that the evolution of the APBT is the AmBully pisses me of . Just a couple of days ago , on another forum , someone told me that bullies are the next APBT's , and that is what the kennels in the US are breeding for . I can't and won't understand how people are dragged in this crap ?!!! I tried hard to explain , and in the end , he would accept my answer , but still hold he's own ..... I just wish people who are breeding bullies advertise them as BLUE or RED BULLYies .

My question is this, how does breeding for a genetic defect improve the breed?

Castle King's dogs come down from Camelot and Peterson blood. Some of those older dogs in the camelot/peterson blood were decent dogs. They were also producing some show quality and athletic dogs. There are alot of people that cross that blood with OFRN or Castillo.

As far as these recent dogs though I'm sure that is just from inbreeding on the previous big dogs like tank and duke. kubar's golden bud is the starting dog of these lines big dog but not squatty.

I own a dog with a small outcross of some old camelot blood sure thats where his size comes from. Seen some Bolio/camelot/ofrn crosses before too.

    It doesn't.

But it makes it easy to create a "new" breed, because that one characteristic of dwarfism creates something totally different.

I don't think it was intended, but that is what they got -- they can now lay claim to creating a new breed and quit calling them APBTs.
