We have a "leash law" even in the county now. If a stray comes on your land you can shoot it. Its best to file a complaint or something first. My rule, if it doesn't have a collar on its dead. If it has a collar and I can catch it I chain it to the mailbox down by the road with a padlock. When the owner see's his dog they come talk to me and we get some things strait. Then I give their dog back and hope not to see it again. Cause I'll be looking at it thru sights. It works both ways though. One of my "vicious pit bulls" gets loose and runs down the street it would be front page news. It's a good incetive for me to keep up my dog containment equipment. Haven't had an escapee in years!

I feel ya pain brother! I have to deal with all the deer hunters’ running dogs every year and yes! They come on to my land and run all over the place. I only have 3 acres but it's mine! Wise man told me, when you stop owning you stop walking! Meaning, if it's not your land stay off Dogs and all. I have my dogs behind a 75' x 130' lot. I have people walk over across my property line and lean on my fence to see the dogs. WTF! I say... I will bust out my back door and meet them before they can return to the property they came from and inform them that they are trespassing! They look at me kinda stupid and say, Huh! I did not know I was on your land. Yea, Right Asshole!!!

The way I had my chain link fence put in looks like it could be riding the property line but it's not. The fence is a good 20' from the line in one spot and 10' from the back side of the property. Most people around there think I have hounds in the lot but the hunters know they are Bulldogs and want their hounds off there ASAP when they run up on my land. I catch the hounds when they come around and call the owner from the contact info on the collar! I don't make problems for the hunters but they give me respect when I have to retrieve their hounds for them. I know what you mean confederatemule about shit that belongs to you and someone don't want to respect the local code of common courtesies!

Confederatemule, I am in a small, rural county in Central Florida, and in our animal control laws, it states that the owner of a female dog in heat is required to keep her in a dog crate no bigger than 4 ft by 4ft and keep her contained behind a fenced in area within a dwelling that has a concrete floor and a permanent, attached roof. If you do not do this, you are liable for you're neighbors' dogs coming over to breed her. I think it's the shittiest law out there, but there's nothing you can do about it. I would check your local laws on the matter of females in heat.

As for livestock, we had a stray pig running the neighborhood. He was caught feral as a youngin' and kept as a pet and when he got big enough to bust through the fence, the owners claimed he wasn't thiers. Well, every damn day I had to come home and clean up garbage from this sob. He even lifted my 6 ft wide, 4.5 ft tall chain link gate off of it's hinges and had it out in the middle of the front yard, so he could get to the garbage when we moved it to the inside of the fence. And it never failed, everytime I was working one of the dogs, or taken the house dog out to pee, that damn pig was right there at the fence. I'm sure you know how distracting a hog can be to a bull-dog, LOL.
I had finally had enough one day and walked to the owner's house (about 3 or 4 houses down) and told him he is either going to pick up my garbage whenever the pig gets in it, or I'm going to pick it up and start dumping it in his yard every day. His excuse was "sorry, it's not my pig".
I finally called the law. The officer was very sweet about everything and I explained that I had several APBTs, and I can't even let them run loose because they try to get this pig. He went to the owners house, and the owner said it agian, "it ain't my pig".
The officer came back to my house with a smile and said to me "Ma'am, this animal is considered a nuissance, feral hog" he says, "I don't care if you have a bull-dog hangin' on each ear, one on the snout, and one on each hind leg, and it's squealing all to high-heaven. It was in your yard, and it's destroying your property. You have every right to destroy it, by any means you find necessary."
"It's not your fault if he was so dangerous that you had to turn your dog loose on him. He was a threat to your children and yourself. You had no choice but to get rid of that hog by any means possible and of couse, afterwards, you'll have to put him out of his misery by shooting him."
I was still worried about the owner claiming the hog after I shot it, but the cop assured me that if the owner complained, he would be back out to give him VERY LARGE fines for not containing his livestock, disobeying the leash laws for that town, and destruction of private property. He gave me a big ol' grin, patted my bulldog on the head and left it at that. Said if there were any more problems, give him a call and ask for him specifically.
We never did see that pig again, supposedly, his owners took him off to be butchered:p

Sorry for such a long post. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in the asshole-neighbor category...

You warned them....they should take heed and be responsible for THEIR dog...you are for yours! I would either shoot it or trap it and take it to the AC in a diff county...

I warned our neighbors COUNTLESS times to keep their YORKIES and COCKER up and they didnt take heed...My dogs are in a fenced yard and their dogs are always on the other side in OUR back field taunting.....I would always go out and spray them with water or chase them off much to the neighbors dislike...
well one dog, a yorkie, got in the fence somehow..dont know where or how...but it didnt last long..they called the AC on ME because MY dog was in HER yard and killed their dog for tresspassing.....with warning. Well the AC laughed and fined THEM and told me that if I had any more issues to take pictures of their dogs in my yard and they would confiscate the animals......
    Some people......

  7. I ain't seen the dog since last Sundy. The people are sure I will do bad things to the dog. I been here fer 30 years. I came here with the reputation of being, how should I put it, crazy? That covers it very well. I ain't done nothin to try to change the image. I make people nervous, always have, I don't know why, just have. My wife says people don't hang around long enough to git to know that I am a very nice person. LOL

    Hopefully it is over.

I understand that no mater where ye are, there will be those around that think they are above the rules of common courtesy. Therefore we are the bad people cause we don't let them step all over us.

Thanks for all the replys, I have enjoyed finding out that I ain't alone.

  8. Update.

It's been a month now and I have seen that dog only once. I did talk to the county cops and was told that the people did not have to keep their dog up.

Which translates to me not keeping mine up. But you all know what that would lead to. I'll keep them all up.

Maybe thangs will stay as they are.
